hey guys ive been hiking in the woods alot lately by my house. theyre are warning signs about rattlesnakes in the area. ive been digging in woodpiles and looking under rocks hoping i can find one. i was wondering how poisonous they really are. this old man at the bar says that theyre not really not that poisonous and that theyre poison doenst even do that much to you. he says a bee sting hurts worst. i want to plan a picnic and a hike with a girl i like because she likes the outdoors but she is afraid of snakes and i want to let her know that the snakes arnt dangerous. i told her you can pick them up like a cat and they wont know it because they are sleeping. if you see one how fast can they chase you and how high can they jump? what is the best place to catch one. or should i plan a different date. thanks for any advice

If for a 0.0000000000000001 chance you're for real and not a silly troll, everything you've written about rattlers is incorrect.

Do yourself a favour and google them, to find out more. Hey, as a good sport, I'll even link the wiki article on them.

You gotta be kidding right? Folks like you need to stay out of the woods till you crack a book or two.

I came upon one coming back from a hike around my grandparents place. Walking the old (out of use) train tracks back home. As I crossed the bridge, I luckily looked down just in time to keep from stepping on one (and yes I can identify a rattler).

I was in a dilemma as it was stretched across the width of the path making it impossible to safely pass around, but the sides for almost a mile back were steep drop offs prior to the bridge.

So I decided to chase it off with rocks from a distance. Rule is two thirds body length from the head to you is red zone for striking.

I played it safer with a good 6-8 feet and started tossing pebbles. I just wanted to spook it off the tracks, but I guess it wasn't too thrilled with the drop off either as it stood its ground and became agitated. Bigger rocks!

That rock landed square on its head and it jumped straight up the height of a grown man!

I won the day's battle but I looked over my shoulder the whole way home.

What the man told you was a bunch of fake posturing he thought would make him sound tough. It will hurt, an effin garter bite hurts. True that people don't die so often from rattler bites, but that isn't about the potency of it's poison. It is because treatment for the bite and toxin is better, transportation is faster, and most folks keep to more developed areas now than in the past.

Hey, I have a great idea for your second date. Take her to the beach, and go out in the ocean with a large bloody piece of meat, and see if you can attract a shark or two. My buddy Fred, down at the bar, says those shark bites are highly overated, and feel more like a dog bite. She'll think you're sooo brave that she'll be putty in your hands, that is if you still have them!

If he does that he might not be able to take her swimming with the jelly fish when the sea-weed comes in.
