So I finally met up with the girl from EH today for lunch -- and I think it went better than I'd expected (of course, I still can never tell when a girl is interested in me, but still). We went to a Japanese restaurant and had lighthearted conversation, which was all fun and everything (just in case anyone asks, I paid). I think it went pretty well, considering it was my first time ever really "going out on a date" (all my past relationships just sort of "happened" with people I'd already met somehow).

I was probably still more awkward and shy than I would have liked, but I was a lot better than usual (there were only maybe 2 awkward pauses that lasted for like 5 seconds each). She's quite pretty and intelligent -- I was definitely attracted. Problem is that I have no idea what she thinks of me. XD

We shook hands when we met, but hugged when we were parting. After we hugged, she said "Talk to you later?" so I am hoping that's a good sign, haha. I was a tard and forgot to ask for her number, though (but we do have each other's email).

Now I am more intimately understanding the nature of all these dating posts here on the forum. Do I wait and tell her I had a good time? / Do I let her respond? / How long to wait? / etc. Ohh the uncertainties.

Anyways though, it was a fun lunch (it all lasted for like an hour and 45 minutes -- whoops). Luckily nobody at work seemed to notice/mind. ANY advice from this point forward would be... excellent. Thanks!

She just sent me an email:

Hey (name),

Thanks again for lunch! I was thinking about the lobster thing and how you said you weren't sure if it was illegal to boil them alive or not even if everyone does it anyway... so I found a site about it. It looks like it's completely cool to cook em alive, but it may be more humane to cut with a knife just behind the eyes to remove the head, haha. I don't know about you but it sounds a lot easier to just throw them in a pot!

*At the restaurant there was live... seafood... under plates of ice up ahead on the main counter, hence that earlier conversation.

Her response leads me to believe that you blew it with this girl and have been friendzoned. You should have made your intentions clear by having secs with her in the restaurant.

Just kidding about how this site sometimes reads. Sounds like it went fine, congrats!

Any other opinions/advice going forward?

What do you guys think?

I couldn't help but notice you never hit her over the course of the date. I'm not saying you need to go all closed fist and break something but a firm, open-handed slap is really important in letting her know you expect her to be a submissive wife. Or, if you want to avoid the physical stuff for now, you could have at least grabbed one of the lobsters out of the tank and crushed its head in your bare hands. I think that would get the point across.

My advice: tell her you had a great time, ask for her number, set up another date at a bookstore, and get to know her there. No need to eat food to get to know her. I wouldn't say you've been friendzoned yet; but if you're not direct enough you could be on your way.

She was reeling too hard from the black eye and Indian rugburns I gave her -- I didn't want to overdo it on the first date. We did talk about gender roles, though (and by "we" I mean "I," as she was not allowed to speak in my presence).

Getting friendzoned is actually a big concern of mine. I know how to be friendly to people -- I don't know how to really flirt or be direct (it's always easier once you cross the physical barrier to things though).

LOL, I LOVE the sarcastic advice some of you are giving.

I just wanted to say something about this friendzone thing - if you break the touch barrier and the girl doesn't reciprocate, back the eff off! I had this experience where I was in a bar with this guy and when I leaned close to him to shout in his ear over the music, he kept touching me on the back. I liked him and was open to getting to know him better so I didn't initially do the "Raaaaaawr! Don't touch me! Raaaaawr!" thing, but at a certain point it started to bug me and I had to shut him down hardcore- which made both of us feel bad.

So, MIRRORING = good. For all parties involved.

*single tear*

I have nothing left to teach you young one. As soon as they let me out, I'm gonna buy you a drink.

We were emailing each other via phone a bit last night (we were both out and about at the time) -- I left her a flirty compliment and was also asking to meet up this Saturday for drinks and food, and so far no response. XD Well, ****, haha.
