SilkRose Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Hey everyone, I read an interesting article recently that stated: "Build up a picture of the kind of man you are looking for and then start to ask yourself where he might be found" This really spoke to me. I've started considering all the fun places I want to go to and things I want to do, I am making a list and making plans to actually go out locally and to nearby towns too, to meet new people and make my 'social pool' bigger. I want to have fun again and to meet quality men. After my break up with my ex I really stopped going out and having fun because I was crying all the time but I am feeling better. It's still tough sometimes but my ex and I will never work, it hurts, it's sad but it is over. I'm in my 20s and I want to enjoy life. This question comes up time and time again and I'm looking for some answers. I'm busy studying now but when the summer comes I will be going out and having lots of fun and I want to meet men. I'm creative, enjoy reading, dancing and have all sorts of interests and lead a healthy lifestyle. I am already drawing up a list. I don't want to internet date. I can't just stay home forever hoping things will change. I get invited to partys, clubs and to see bands all the time so I'll start accepting invitations fairly soon and going out in that way but what else? Single men are technically everywhere, fine but I want some suggestions and cool stories about where you met an attractive interesting man or places, responses from guys are welcome, where do you go? Suggestions please! Let's find some answers!
bananaboat11 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I'm a scientist by day... dj by night... i'm a one woman man. single. heh. and for some reason, people tend to think i'm very attractive. where do I hang out? my office/lab during the day... practicing @ my apt at night or @ the gym at night... weekends? I'm relaxing with friends elsewhere.. OR I'm playing a venue.
annxxdisaster Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 (edited) Wisconsin .................. Southeast Wisconsin? But, it seems like with nice warm weather all of the handsome boys crawl out of their clothe...um, I mean, houses, and inhabit the world once again. If you're 21, maybe you can check out some bars that sponser a softball or volleyball team? Co-ed if you wanted to participate or just males if you want to watch. Any even that's held outside sounds like a really nice place to meet people to me...festivals, block parties, bon fires...etc. I get excited for being single in the summer. USMCHokie Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I get excited for being single in the summer. Me too.
Author SilkRose Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 Baseball games I'm not interested in baseball but I like other sports so I will keep that in mind. I'm a scientist by day... dj by night... i'm a one woman man. single. heh. and for some reason, people tend to think i'm very attractive. where do I hang out? my office/lab during the day... practicing @ my apt at night or @ the gym at night... weekends? I'm relaxing with friends elsewhere.. OR I'm playing a venue. So I should consider dating guys I work with...which I have finally decided is ok, in the right circumstances. Don't do the gym but I like swimming and other forms of excercise so I'll keep my eyes open when I go to swim or classes. Thanks for the tips. It's really great that you're a one woman man, must get attention, being a DJ...? Southeast Wisconsin? Sporty events/bars (I could try that). Festivals are a great idea!
ADF Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Avoid any and all places where men in their 20s tend to congregate. That's rule number one.
Author SilkRose Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 I get excited for being single in the summer. Okay so here's a recap of the suggestions plus a few more. * Sports games/events/bars/competitions * Music/Cultural/Film Festivals * Salsa/Samba Clubs * Work * At the gym/excercise classes/swimming * Wisconsin I'm in my 20s and I am open minded about age, 20s and 30s seems right. Maybe a bit older but I'm not interested in dating...Gandalf the Grey. Just kidding, no offence to anyone older single people should date but I have my limits, considering my age.

SomewhatExperienced Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I'd say try to get yourself into some recreational sport leagues, or maybe some interest clubs. These are good chances for people with common interests to get together and have fun and usually go out for a beer and socialize after. I play intramural volleyball in my university and a lot of people meet end up dating people they meet there. So sports clubs, hiking clubs I've heard are great because you can hike and carry a conversation with someone while you do it. You're likely to meet friendly, physically fit guys there. Also, DO NOT DATE GUYS YOU MEET GUYS AT DANCE BARS/CLUBS. Guys who go there are usually there specifically to meet girls to hook up with, not all of them, but most of them. If all you want to do is hook up, then fine, but if you want something more, check out my first suggestion.
alphamale Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 i would say the bar area of high-end restaurants

Reminds me of the film '40 days and 40 nights' I am curious about firemen, I think they're hot where do they go...? I've also heard that they have a rep for being cheaters, I have also heard that they have a rep for being loyal...guess that as usual it comes down to the man. silic0ntoad Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 beer connissor (Sp?) bars. There's a place by my house called Porter's pub. They have an excellent beer menu and you can pretty much get the flavor of the week in guys there, usually mild mannered, all professional in some way.

Would a brewery tour be the same sort of place then? We have lots of them around me and they offer tours all the time.
2sure Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 OP - you tell us what YOU like to do. But really, if you would like suggestions on where to go to meet a particular type of man... I'd have to know what type of man you are looking for. Sure, the things you listed about yourself are good things to have in common with someone...but when you formed the picture of the man you would like to meet..what are the details. Like, fitness, education, lifestyle, income/profession, goals ??
ConflictedGuy27 Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 I like your approach. I think it's in line with how single guys in their 20s(late) - 30s go about finding wothwhile women. Continue to reach out to groups where people in the general age group you're looking at are, and join in. You'll already have something in common with every participant there, which makes opening up a dialouge that much easier, for either sex. I'm in the process of building out a list like yours too, and would like to hear places you already find interesting. Hiking is a good one, I suspect if there's any attraction you'll find some prospects with that. I'm a guy that loves to cook, so if you think dating such a person would be interesting, I'd suggest either cooking or mixology classes. Mixology, like bartending. Usually guys that entertain often or are more social would be in such a setting. Mixology begs for social interaction "so... What made you want to learn??" it's great and on my list. As a 27 year old man with a simalar goal as u, let all your ideas out. We can learn from each other. ;p
sunshinegirl Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 All great ideas; I'll add this to the mix: use your networks, whatever they are - friends, classmates, work colleagues, etc. Three of my boyfriends have been friends-of-friends, people I wouldn't otherwise have run into on my own. Met my current boyfriend at a BBQ last summer thrown by mutual friends...
St. Nick Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 You can meet many attractive, interesting men at a leper colony.

The last two guys I dated, were my neighbors, albeit one was an old acquaintance who moved in next door. My husband is a neighbor of friends, who are now my neighbors!

Met my current boyfriend at a BBQ last summer thrown by mutual friends... You are so right, I'm considering all my 'networks' espcially friends who are great to socialise with and who attract/keep company with positive people. Yup, these as well as neighbors and friend's neighbors. The last two guys I dated, were my neighbors, albeit one was an old acquaintance who moved in next door. My husband is a neighbor of friends, who are now my neighbors! Wow my neighbours aren't my friends, they are nice and polite but that's it and they are older with children so, that's not an option but your story is so sweet. Sounds like you live in a great neighbourhood! I like your approach. I think it's in line with how single guys in their 20s(late) - 30s go about finding wothwhile women. Someone special and also very romantic as that's what I am.
