I made my first appointment at a bridal store. My wedding is at the beginning of September and everyone has been telling me it's time to get my dress  I have also been researching some bridal salons, to my surprise I keep finding horrid reviews about every place I find!

Currently my impression is that you go to a bridal store, strip down naked in front of a judgmental, pushy woman who is desperate of commission, get called fat, get pressured in to doubling your budget, then get more attitude when you don't decide to purchase your dress that day.

This sounds like it may suck

I want to go to some nice boutiques but I don't know where to go. The appointment I have is at a low-end place, but they seem to have pretty cute dresses. When I called them they seemed really nice and answered all my dumb questions. Also, a dress I really like is there, though no one except for me likes it :(

Is this going to be lame? I was hoping it would be fun. I had fun with the florist, photographer and invitation lady :bunny:

Should I go alone? With my mom?

Did anyone here have fun dress shopping?

Someone else as it not alone, or not with my mom? My mom is pretty cool, she wouldn't get dramatic or crazy one me. Plus, she's be honest, she'd tell me the truth is she absolutely loved a dress, or if my ass looked fat.

I went with my mom and chose the first dress she picked out for me to try on. Never tried on another dress, I had looked for years in magazines, so I knew what style I wanted. I did not get called fat though my mom did tell me when we got in the car that my drawers were on inside out!:eek:

So wear your best and check them twice! :p

I just started looking over the last 2 months, and I'm pretty sure I know what I like. Though the people who saw my dress choice from the store I'm going to all told me it was too plain and that I will end up falling in love with something else. We will see. Wow at you looking for years!

And thanks for the tip, I will put my drawers on carefully that day

Will it be weird if I wear a thong? I don't have any non thong underwear, I don't want the sales people to think I'm gross for touching the dresses with my bare ass cheeks. I think I will buy some butt-covering underwear for the occasion.

Send me the link to the dress you got, and I'll tell you it's perfect. :)

Shopping for my BFF's dress was the easiest thing I could have ever imagined. She had some pictures of things she liked and knew what colors and fabrics she liked. Her sister and I made sure that they didn't bring her any dresses outside of her budget.

On about the 4th (may have been the 3rd) dress, she cried, and we knew that was it. She had her dress picked out in less than 1.5 hours.

BF's brother's fiance went to DB and AA, and found them horrid. She then went to the boutique I PM'd you about, and it was a breeze.

I'd forgo the thong this time! I honestly don't think there is such a thing as a too plain wedding dress. Infact IMO, the plainer the dress the more beautiful the bride.

My mom accidentally fell into wedding planning, and planned and coordinated all of her friends children's weddings. By the time I got married I knew exactly what I wanted... it was the easiest wedding she ever planned!

No, I'm getting a traditional white dress for the wedding. But my fmil is dressing me as she pleases for the big Indian rehearsal dinner and a coupe other things.

That dress is nice but SO'd family would think it wasn't flashy enough, also, not gujarati enough.

I haven't gotten a dress yet, I haven't even stepped foot in a bridal shop yet. The dress I really like is at AA, I can link it here if anyone is interested.

AA is where I am going to start but I definitely plan to go to some nicer places too. I am not going to go to DB.

Well, remembering my own experience, I had a general idea of what I liked and brought the ladies in the family with me.

One day, I tried it on and just knew it was the one. Judging by the transformation on their faces...it was "the dress."

Sort of like finding one's intended spouse.:p

I think I said this before but Alfred Angelo is EXTREMELY pushy. They go crazy when you want to try on a dress and try to convince you to buy it even after you tell them you want to wait.

When I went to AA I took one of my bridesmaids because my mom was in South Carolina. I told the salesperson that Iwould have to wait for my mom to purchase the dress and she picked up the phone and told me to call my mom in SC and have her charge the dress on her credit card over the phone!!! I was so pissed..it really turned me off.

Not all AA's may be like that but usually chain stores are much more pushy then independent ones. Granted, independent bridal shops are more expensive (usually) because they are designer dresses. But it was definately a better shopping experience at the shop where I bought my dress compared to AA.

You need to consider though that you have less then 6 months to buy a dress. AA dresses usually take 4 months to come in, but that would be okay because you would have time to alter it. A designer dress would probably take longer to order then that (unless you bought off the rack). So even though AA is more pushy, you might want to consider buying it there given your time table for your wedding.
