EricaH329 Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 I have been trying to think of ways to make myself feel better, in spite of everything that's going on in my life right now. The idea came to me while a friend and I were sitting at a car wash, waiting for her car to finish up being cleaned off by guys. It was a really nice day outside, but the car wash was really really busy and these guys were running around like crazy in the sun trying to get all of the cars cleaned. And so the list was created: Find a bunch of guys working outside in the dead of heat, and bring them all Gatorade. (It was originally lemonade, but re-thinking that one made me realize that's dumb, considering lemonade only dehydrates you further.)Participate in a walk-a-thon/run-a-thon for an organization.Volunteer at a pound.Volunteer at a homeless shelter.Work at a summer camp this summer.Join the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization. That is all that I have so far. If you can think of anything else that might be beneficial to someone besides myself, please share! I've realized that making other people happy, will give me so much more satisfaction than doing things for myself. I'm very excited about starting the list!
skydiveaddict Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 send a care package to troops over there (Iraq, Afghanistan)
Author EricaH329 Posted March 19, 2010 Author Posted March 19, 2010 send a care package to troops over there (Iraq, Afghanistan) That's SUCH a good idea!!! Do you know where I would send it? Or even to whom? I'd really like to get more information about that. Maybe I can also get a card and have a whole bunch of people sign it and write encouraging words. That's a great idea skydive!! Good luck. Thanks!

taurusincus Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 This is such a great idea!!!!And i am surely going to replicate it in my life and i will review at the end of the day all the good deeds that i did, however insignificant they may seem.
taurusincus Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Here is my good deeds list for today, 1.Did not get mad at my wife despite having ample opportunities. 2.Helped here in every possible way with her business, taking time off mine. 3.Had been extremely patient with the kids, listened to them and played with them. 4.Appreciated my barber after having a hair cut for the good job done.
Rearden Metal Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Great thread Erica- What I see are selfless things on your list. I like to have those types of things on my list too. But you should also include selfish things. Things that build YOU up! For me, it looks like this- - Paint! Wipe the dust of my studio and start painting again. - Draw! Bust out the sketchpad and spend time losing time! - Read! Start and finish a good book this week. - Gym! Kick some major azz in the gym. Summer body Woot! - Clean! Clean my house so I can invite people over without hiding them from rooms!
melodymatters Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 That is a WONDERFUL idea, and I commend you for thinking of others at a relatively young age ! In my 20's, I was about the entertainment business, in my 30's real estate and money, only now in my 40's after having experienced the loss of a few people very close to me have my priorites changed. When nothing else seems to make sense, helping others ALWAYS is a win/win proposistion ! You are a lawyer, yes ? How about volunteering some free legal services to a local domestic violence center, or for veterans or wherever your interests lie ?
FreddieJones Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Send Flowers in Hospitals to patients, that would be great!

Clean my house so I can invite people over without hiding them from rooms! You make a very good point! I have actually began making a small list for myself also. The only thing I have on it so far, is spring cleaning (which is a given). I've already started on the kitchen and it's looking great! I'd also love to repaint, but i'm not very good with that sort of thing. Maybe I can learn? I like your list! Have you begun doing any of these things? That is a WONDERFUL idea, and I commend you for thinking of others at a relatively young age ! I am not a lawyer (don't think I ever could be, I tend to back away from arguements when it gets to be too much ), I work at a bar so i'm not really too sure what I can do with that. But those are some great suggestions and i'll look into those and see what I can do to help out. Thanks!!! Send Flowers in Hospitals to patients, that would be great! Great idea!!!! Thank you!

One of the things I did during the hollidays, was pick up leftover pastries and breads from a local store and hand them out to homeless guys living near a church. They were stoked!

I bet they were extremely grateful! When I was younger, I volunteered at a soup kitchen (wasn't really my idea, I had gotten into some trouble and it was community service), but I remember the feeling of accomplishment I recieved when all was said and done. I would very much like to do that again.
