willynilly Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 I'm 19 and have recently come out as a lesbian. Now that I'm out, I'd like to date other women, but I've gotten zero interest. I've been trying online dating, since I'm too young to go to a bar/club. I'm a femme who likes other femmes... can anyone give me some tips/tricks or suggest what I may be doing wrong? Thanks!
ADF Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 A lesbian-identified ex-GF of mine (long story; not that interesting) said something once you might want to consider. In any given locale--even a large city--the number of lesbians is usually very small. First, consider that only between 10-15% of the population is gay. That knocks 85-90% of the population out of your dating pool immediately. Of that 10-15%, the majority are gay men. The out gay population in a given area is rarely a 50/50 male/female split. The men usually outnumber the women, often by a wide margin. That means your potential dating pool is even smaller. This is why there is so much "lesbian drama." In most places, you have a situation where everyone has dated everyone else, everyone knows everyone's secret, etc. Plus, the woman who steals you GF is likely someone you know. Well. Bottom line: lesbians have to work extra hard to find dates. They need to get into the local lesbian culture and swim around in it. Often for a long time. Then, maybe, they can find someone.
