Why is it pretty much impossible to meet women who are funny?

Since you find women not funny and you want a funny partner, just go gay, St. Nick. It's not rocket science.

There seem to be fewer funny women than men. My last GF was a blast! She's a bassist too so she had to develop a thick skin and sense of humor to survive in bands which are tend to be male dominated. Too bad that didn't work out.. but we're still good friends. She's a bit of a tomboy... I kinda like tomboyish women. As long as they have a strong feminine side too.

You know something I have to agree with this there are nowhere near as good female comedians as there are male ones. All the top female ones I find for the most part annoying, Ellen is one of the ones that annoys me. She is "cutesy funny" now, I used to really dig her stand up many years ago when she was a nobody and more edgy now she's gotten lame.

BUT Wanda Sykes I can listen to until the cows come home now THAT'S one super funny woman, OMG I will watch the Lenno show only if she is on.

But see even the best ones are lesbians so what does that tell you?

I make people laugh, and people tell me all the time I am very funny. I've had boyfriends crying with laughter over stuff I'll say I'm very quick witted and have a twisted but also silly at times way of seeing things (very observant) that guys really enjoy, and with my girlfriends we always end up laughing so hard it hurts. I can appreciate my humour will always pale in comparison to men's style of humor even if I can still keep up.

My boss (male) and I have side splitting laughs often, we were coming back from a business trip last year and there were people on the plane around us looking at us because we could not stop laughing at each other's stories.

I think for women it is very much dependent on the intellectual wavelength you share with another person where as for men if you are funny you will be it all the time with anyone.

I think, for a lot of women, it could be that they are too worried about what people will think of what they say, i.e. too "blue" or whatever. I don't worry about such things. Of course, I keep the conversation appropriate depending on the situation (black tie event, etc.), but if I'm out with friends, I say pretty much what comes to mind. I'm not inhibited by worrying about what others think.

My guy is very funny. Here's an example of how quick he is:

A gal and I were talking about shopping for pants. Have any of you gals ever bought a pair of slacks or jeans that look good in the changing room (standing up) so you buy them, then you put them on to wear them and the first time you sit down they bunch up and make what appears to be a penis in your lap? We HATE those pants! Anyway, she had bought two pairs of the same jeans that did just that and was lamenting the fact that she now had to go back to the f'ing mall to return them. My guy says, "I don't know what you gals are complaining about. If I bought a pair of jeans and, when I sat down, they made a vagina in my lap, I'd go buy another pair."

I will grant that for some women comedians, the ones who are obviously trying too hard to be funny by trying to be like a guy usually are not very funny. But I think there can be and are women who are genuinely funny from a down to earth perspective. I know I've made guys genuinely laugh before, including my Ex LTR, and my wayward LDR. Its about timing and knowing enough about some subject to make a humorous comparison or statement, not about bashing anyone.

Yes, when God made man and woman he said:

"Adam, you are going to be one funny bastard"

"Eve, you are going to be a humorless harpy who must find that funny bastard's jokes over there funny."

Women are totally funny. Some male comedians are too brash, just as some female comedians are as well. But many women have the very human, not just male, capability to posses wit, humour and the intelligence it takes to be funny.

Being funny is not just a male trait, like having a penis is. Being funny is a human trait. To tell women or think women aren't funny is bascially to tell them they are incapable of a human trait. Real nice OP!

I can see that being a part of it. Some women are also far more sensitive than most men. Especially when any humor is at their expense. Can't take a joke types, dish it but can't take it, everything is so serious types, can't tell the difference between a tongue in cheek comment vs. an offensive criticism.. of course this can all apply to men as well. But I see it more commonly with women. Especially those that didn't grow up with brothers or a lot of other males close in their lives.

But there are some damn funny women around. Just fewer and further between. The cast of Golden Girls was amazing for example.

Many women comedians aren't funny because they only joke about things women can relate to. "My period this" "Pregnancy that".

Good comedians cross genders and races, many female ones just don't do that.

Many male comedians only talk about things that males can relate to, and yet women find it funny too.

Is it possible that some men are just more self-centric than women?

Not really, and the good male comedians talk about things in general that anyone can relate to.

That's a really good point/observation! It's true.

I find that Ellen DeGeneres talks about things that anyone can relate to and has excellent comedic timing, not blatantly crude but alludes to crudeness. Do you find her funny?

Keep in mind that I don't watch Ellen's show, since it's targeted towards a particular audience. I'm talking about her stand-up.

Ellen to me is like a female Jay Leno. They are both very corny and are only enjoyable if they have a good guest. There are funny women though. Look at Tina Feye and Amy Poehler for example. SNL has suffered in their absence.

In the UK, Dawn French & Jennifer Saunders are always cited whenever the question of whether women can be funny is raised. I always found them very hit or miss when they had their own show.

Caroline Aherne aka Mrs Merton, on the other hand....consistently funny and one of my favourite funny people. Very talented Brit comedienne, actress and comedy scriptwriter. Sadly, she's had quite serious problems with depression and hasn't been heard of so much recently.

Ellen is TOTALLY like Lenno good comparison. Nicey nice humour, that lacks edge.

Tina Fey and Amy are great, I do love Kristen Wigg though she cracks me right up her characters are so out there and she is an amazing comedic actor. Total goof.

So true!! You know who my faves are from the UK? The troop that did Smack The Pony, those chicks were sooo funny!

this show was the best

Why are men also the best chefs? Artists? Musicians?

Because men have more creativity..

As for humor, women usually resort to sarcasm, which is the lowest form of humor. Many women also brag about this for some reason. I have read many dating profiles that say something like "I am sarcastic!!"

I think the OP was thinking of everyday people, not professional comedians.. Men are funny, women are not. Men usually need humor to land a mate, where as women just need to look pretty.

Not too much, I like Sarah Silverman though. I couldn't ever get into Margaret Cho, but women seem to like her.

Calizaggy...I ask this in all sincerity and without any intention to be sarcastic. Could you link me to the post where you were funny?

AND this is a serious question for St. Nick....why don't you go gay? Then you would have the most compatible partner you're looking for.

More and more guys keep saying "Wish I was gay..." so they'd date someone they could get along with and connect with, like a friend.

I could never be gay but I see where they're coming from. I love women too much even if they are insane sometimes.

I am not here to be funny, or make people laugh.. However girls I have dated find me to be very funny.
