Why can't we all just get along?

There's so many male/female hatred threads these days.

Posted

I think a lot of the hostility stems from people wanting to prescribe how others should lead their lives. Feeling frustrated about lacking the authority or position to be able to impose their standards on others.

Posted

I think it's mostly because relationships and the whole men/women differences etc is a very touchy subject, and touchy subjects make people defensive, hence the "not getting along" part.

It's very unfortunate. If we were fueling our energy in a proactive, helpful manner for our LS cohabitants, the boards would create a sense of trust. Instead, we draw the line between men and women like we're so different. Interestingly enough, (I've studied gender behaviors and patterns extensively) we are MUCH, MUCH more similar than you'd believe. Even more so, those biological/evolutionary theories are losing more esteem with each passing day. Which, leads me to my final conclusion: since we are so extremely impacted by our environment- we'd all benefit from a provacative, cohesive community.

I don't get it. If we all got along, there would be no point to LS anyways...

I think a few people here have had some very very bad experiences (and a hell of a lot of free time) and try to use the boards as a soapbox.

Everybody else who haven't had such extreme experiences (or learned something from a bad experience and moved on) and therefore don't have such a skewed view of the world will disagree with the people mentioned above.

This creates a neverending debate whereby the people who've had the bad experiences will use their own (and their friends') experiences to basically complain about anything and everything. As a result, they get on everyone else's nerves.

I think, the majority of people posting here are the last good souls on earth because we all seem to have been burned badly & often.

so there is a lot of jadedness going on.

We should debate to find the REAL reason why we debate!

I would suggest not confusing spirited debate with 'hate'.

Personally, the debates on fatherhood, paternity testing and pre-nups (examples of the 'hate') have solidified a lot of nebulous issues for myself, fleshing out a better plan of action for the future. To me, this is a positive purpose of conflict. If/when I meet a like-minded woman, perhaps I will share myself with her. In my mind, I can disagree with someone and still love and respect them. We'll see :)

Yeah seriously. I'm fiesty and I love being challenged. There is nothing more attractive to me than a man who can hold his own against me. Mmmm.

I don't think you're even worthy of me challenging you. Prove yourself...

What's there to debate? Everyone has an opinion and they are diverse. Everyone thinks that their opinion is correct - when in reality very few are.

The real debate should be based on why people stick to their opinions even under a mountain of logic, facts and truths. Why is blind faith so powerful? ;)

I think spirited debate is fine. I do agree however that there is a lot of hate on these boards.

Any time when someone condemns a whole group of people, that's a form of hate. Whether you do it based on gender, sexual preference, or even simple life-style choices it makes real discussion impossible.

Or, because they're U.S. citizens - I've seen some of that.

Lol well if you want to debate, pop a question and bring it! I'm ready haha and we're roughly the same age so that makes it even more fun.

Yep, but this only works when neither of the sides is condescending or has a god complex, like many posters here. I could name names, but wont, because it would be impolite, plus it triggers a gag reflex. Difference of opinions is not in the least offensive. Condescending attitude is.

On the flip side, posters like Carhill and others show the value of humility, although they're probably smarter/wiser than the rest 95% combined.
