Not sure what to think...is this an engagement thing?

HEY GUYS!

 

OK, Ryan and I have been together for 1 year and 4 months, give or take.

 

In January we went on short trip to Florida to see his brother and stay at his condo for a few nights.

 

So we're walking down some street one day, we go into a little boutique, and I'm admiring the jewelry. There's a rack of pretty, flashy rings that I'm admiring. They're about 30.00 apiece. Ryan says, "If you like those, you should get one and just wear it around so everyone knows you have a boyfriend."

 

So I buy it, and I wear it, and the damn thing turns my finger green. LOL. So I stopped wearing it, of course.

 

I told Ryan about it turning my finger green. He says, "We should go to the actual JEWELRY store soon and get you a REAL one, a diamond one."

 

So I'm thinking...whaaaaaaat?

 

And he says, "Maybe if I get a bonus this month I can get you one for a few hundred dollars."

 

So I'm like, hell yeah. I don't want a really big one anyway, just a little one.

 

BUT.

 

Should I be asking if this is an engagement ring that I'm going to go pick out? Is that too much? I mean, it IS going to be a diamond ring, after all. And we are both in our mid-twenties, and we have been together for a bit.

 

I would LIKE for it to be a diamond engagement ring, but if it's not I don't want to be acting a fool and telling people it is.

 

GAH. So I know I have to ask him. How should I bring it up?

Wait until you actually go and get a ring. Then you can ask him what this means to him. It's possible he's only talking about a promise ring, so don't get your hopes up.

Ugh, I hope it's not a promise ring! I'm too old for that. -_- I got like, three promise rings in high school. LOL.

Sounds like it's a promise ring. Don't rush! Enjoy it, think about it- you're in such a fun part of the relationship. When he buys you the ring, you buy some lingerie and show your approval.

I would imagine that a 20-something year old guy would be able to properly ask a girl to marry him, if it were an engagement ring, right???....I mean, I would hope at that age there wouldn't be any confusion....
