laRubiaBonita Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Does popping/ crackling your knuckle really make your knuckles big? does it really lead to arthritis? and if so, why doesn't cracking your neck make your neck bigger? or popping you ankles? or popping your toes?
xpaperxcutx Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I heard knuckle cracking makes you at risk of getting arthritis. I used to crack my knuckles ALOT but I haven't done it in years, yet everytime I see someone else do it, I have to tell them that they're going to get arthritis.
TaraMaiden Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 No, and no. It's just fine and tiny collections of minuscule nitrogen bubbles, which pop when you crack your fingers. it does no damage to any joints at all. I do it all the time. My hands are just naturally clawed. (That was a joke......)

alphamale Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I've been cracking my knuckles for over 40 years and I do not have arthritis or big knuckles. 25+ yrs here with no ill effects
TaraMaiden Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 that is what i have always read too.... just out of curiosity though, TM, do you have larger knuckles? it has been said it is a sign of creativity and artistic nature No. However, I am extremely creative and do have a very artistic nature, as it happens..... I have a very large head. I fly a lot and my ears pop. That must be it. (I have no idea what's up with me tonight. )
Author laRubiaBonita Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 i have cracked mine for as long as i can remember too... but i do have big knuckles, in fact my knuckles are bigger than my fingers, my wedding rings have sizers because i have to have the ring big enough to go over my knuckle- but then it's too big for my finger. my dad has big knuckles though and i remember my great grandmother did... actually i think my hands look like hers. but i still kinda/ sorta worry it is not genetics, but because i pop my knuckles.

shadowplay Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I can crack all of my vertebrae -- lower back to top of neck. It's awesome, and feels amazing. I can also crack my elbows, all my knuckles in every direction, my toes, ankles, knees and shoulders.

I love popping my sacro-illiac joint. No, really. To feel the base of your spine popping, feels as if you've put something major right. My elder brother bends his arms behind his back, and pushes his knuckles into the miffle of his spine. he can crack his whole spine that way, too...it sounds amazing, so it must feel awesome... My neck cracks, every time I squat down, my knees crack. Once they sounded like a branch breaking...I didn't know if I'd ever walk again!

That's what comes of very late-night keyboard popping!! Oh Lordy.... You wait until I tell him he's got a 'miffle'.....
Lauriebell82 Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I always thought that my knuckles were big because I crack them..but I have heard that is not true... And I know that it does not cause arthritis!
