My boyfriend of 10 years woke up one morning last week and was in a very bad mood and didn't want to talk to me. I don't know what happened because the night before he was nice to me and even made me dinner. So he continues to be in a foul mood all day and doesn't come home. When I try to speak to him he is abrupt and very abrasive and hangs up.

He then moved out without even talking to me about what is wrong and clears his stuff out. I have not heard from him since. I gave up on calling him as he doesn't pick up when I do or return my call.

I just can't see how he could walk out on our relationship after so many years. I suspect he has been taking drugs since he is always short on cash even after paydays and moody at times.

It is so hard for me to stop thinking of him and crying since we were together for so long. I don't know why he is giving me the silent treatment. It is torture. If the relationship wasn't working for him all he couldve done is talk to me. But now he acts like I don't exist and it is killing me. It has been over a week now without any contact since I gave up on calling him on my own and his silent treatment continues. Just feeling like my heart is obliterated. How do I make the hurt go away?

That sounds really tough. I think the only thing that can make the hurt go away is time. 10 years with someone is a long time, no wonder you are upset. On a positive note, if he was taking drugs, you would want to get the hell out of there as soon as you can. It's not a good idea to stay in a relationship where one partner is a drug-user.

I'm suspecting, although I don't know, that breaking up with you is something that will have been going through his mind for some time but he hasn't had the guts to actually face you and tell you that. Which also means that he's a coward and you are better off without him.

I won't be easy but you seem to have pride in yourself since you are already talking about trying to get the hurt go away instead of desperately trying to get him back when he doesn't take your calls.

I'd say, go "cold turkey" on him, no more contact. If he's left and taken his stuff, he has no need to come back. Simply ditch him out of your life as of now and you'll come out as a winner in the end (and it will stop hurting way more quickly than it would otherwise). If he's going NC on you without explaining himself, you have no need to give him any attention, he's not worth your time or attention. You can find a better guy than one who walks out on you like that and even if you couldn't, I'd say it's better to be alone than in a bad company.
