apollo2588 Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 I had a revelation today... I had gotten into the bad habit of listening to very sad music anytime I was driving in my car... in turn, any road trip (short or long) would usually consist of crying. For a while, it was actually something I kinda looked forward to... I mean, the release of emotions was a relief. For some reason today, I got in my car ready to make the three hour drive back to school and decided I was tired of the same sad songs that just bring me to tears thinking about the ex (I had been stuck on Brad Paisley's "Whiskey Lullaby," Dave Matthew's "Dreaming Tree," Keith Urban's "Making Memories of Us," among alot of others...). So, I decided to do a 180 and make a happy thoughts playlist. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH just how much better I felt getting out of the car at the end of the road trip then usual. It was amazing, I felt optimistic and hopeful for the future rather then down over the past. Obviously, I couldn't wait to post this breakthrough on LS I suggest EVERYONE struggling with NC and thoughts of thier ex try this. Here is "Apollo's Happy Thoughts Playlist," in case you want a couple songs as a spring board: I'm Alive- Kenny Chesney ft. Dave Matthews Amazing- Aerosmith Haven't Met Me Yet- Michael Buble Here Comes the Sun- The Beatles Beautiful Lunatic- Trevor Hall Expectations- Belle & Sebastian I Feel Love- Blue Man Group fr. Venus Hum Blessed- Brett Dennen The Best of What's Around- Dave Matthews Band Bulletholes- Dispatch Feeling Good- Muse Times Like These- Foo Fighters Unanswered Prayers- Garth Brooks Now That We Found Love- Heavy D & The Boyz Live High- Jason Mraz Stronger- Kayne West Relax, Take It Easy- Mika We Are Your Friends- Simian Calling All Crows- State Radio Psycho Killer- Talking Heads End of the Line- Traveling Wilburys I would love to hear anyone else's music ideas as well. The Chesney and Buble songs as especially good. These aren't all upbeat but they have a positive message... and if you really listen to the lyrics, you'll see that there is alot to take out of them. Some, though, are just random, upbeat, and fun. This was an important day for me because it truly showed me just how much state of mind plays a role in healing. I've always felt that I can't help my thoughts and that hopefully they will just fade over time. So I usually gave into them... after today, I'm making a conscious effort to think positively and not dwell on the things I cannot control. Thoughts? Songs?
Woggle Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 I choose to listen to Raw and weird music whenever I am feeling down. It helps me to get in a good mood.
Author apollo2588 Posted February 22, 2010 Author Posted February 22, 2010 I'm happy with my sad lonely songs. And I agree, I'm sure there are still gonna be days when I go back to those songs. Was just something different and had an unexpected effect...
