We've been chatting for about a month now I think. I live in the Midwest and he lives in with Eastcoast. He offered to fly me to his home town to meet for the weekend, only because his town is a lot more fun in the middle of winter than mine. He paid for my plane ticket.

How were the financials split with your first meeting? Did the guy pay for your ticket? Or did you both go 50/50? Or you paid?

I paid for it. I'm sure I'll be getting every penny worth of it in 13 days when I finally meet him.:)

He paid for me to come there, then I paid for him to come here lol

I pay for my transportation, then he pays for almost everything while I'm there (dinners, event tickets, going out for drinks, etc.). He always offers to pay half of my plane ticket also, which I always turn down.

But, we met IRL, and unfortunately ended up having to date LD for a bit. (As opposed to meeting online and then finally meeting IRL at some point.)

The first time, I paid for mine. If it didn't work out, or the chemistry was not there, I would have feel very uncomfortable, and as if I "owed" him something.

We always take turns visiting. . . he pays for his and I pay for mine.

The first meeting, I was going to be in his area anyway visiting family, so I paid for my own flight and had family to stay with. However during our LDR he was making significantly more $$ than I so he paid for most (though not all) of the flights thereafter, both mine and his. We managed to see each other every other weekend that way taking turns doing the traveling, whereas if I had paid for my own flights we'd have had considerably less time together; since he could afford it, it was practical. But I would have felt uncomfortable if he paid for the first trip and everything and there had been no chemistry. I was lucky that I had the family involvement in that first meet, it removed a lot of potential awkwardness, somewhat ironically.

I paid for my first plane ticket. Of course, that visit didn't happen and the money was lost, but still...I did! The next visit he came, so he paid.

OP, IME and IMO, whoever chooses to travel should be responsible for their travel expenses or proffer that perspective when discussing travel plans. In your case, airfare is about equal to a decent dinner and drinks so it should be a non-issue. For those of us who have traveled half a world away, the stakes were/are a bit more substantial. That said, the person being visited should be the facilitator, helping the visitor find the best deals and arranging for a place to stay, as well as investing as host, like paying for an activity.

Though I've provided many with long distance travel in my life, I can't imagine ever having such provided for me. Perhaps it's one advantage of being a woman. People want to do things for you :)

I guess it would depend on a few things.. if the ticket is a lot of money.. and the guy wants to pay.. well.. go for it..

I just spoke to one guy who moved to Germany (work) for 2 years.. he wants me to go there and visit.. and I told him that I just bought a house last night and it would depend on my budget.. he said.. 'we'll talk about that tonite'... hummm... that would be fun.. Germany... :bunny:

I'm going to visit my guy for the first time in 3 months and I'm paying for my plane ticket there and back. He's paying for everything while I'm up there for 2 weeks.
