betamanlet Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 I've never liked video games, like nintendo and whatever, but now they have online gaming, so I'm wondering if this has ever made "love matches" ? I have an xbox and a wii, but only because my friends are all gaming addicts and they won't go anywhere without them, so I got them. But should I start playing games? The wii, I can see, why there is lots of fitness related stuff.. I would do it for that reason. But I'm pretty happy being a shutin right now.
skydiveaddict Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 beta, for a pc game (free) check out "America's Army". We were playing that last fall in Afghanistan. It's a pretty fun game
Author betamanlet Posted February 20, 2010 Author Posted February 20, 2010 beta, for a pc game (free) check out "America's Army". We were playing that last fall in Afghanistan. It's a pretty fun game i hear women are more into wii though... not nerdy PC games.. I get bored really easily. I tried to play some online spaceship game and fell asleep... I did like warbirds but it's gone. Doubt many women play that. Figure nerdy women might play video games.

I thought you were just looking for a fun game to play. To meet women, I generally go out.

I've heard about some people meeting others that way. But not on a massive multi player thing. Something more cordial and small.
zebracolors Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 *raises hand* A MMO is actually how I met my guy who lives in England. Which proves that sometimes good matches don't have to be limited to your own zip code.

The only time I ever played one was in the beginning, some kind of saving private ryan storming the beach and people only cursed at each other. Can you describe? Thanks!
alphamale Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 but now they have online gaming, so I'm wondering if this has ever made "love matches" ? you must be joking
Author betamanlet Posted February 20, 2010 Author Posted February 20, 2010 you must be joking no. it might be the exception, but there have been love matches at star trek conventions. I'm a nerd, but I hate video games. so trying to expand my horizons.

Yeah you can definitely chat with alot of other people, as pretty much all have a text chat implemented. But instead of just being like a chat room, you have an avatar(character) in the generated world, that follows a storyline based on whatever the game is (like World of Warcraft, Star Trek, Aion, Global Agenda) Like most social scenes though it has its good points and bad, people and otherwise. But you make friends and those become the people that make the bad things bearable. I don't know, they can be a big time sink if you let it, but most people are sensible and always put real life first. And really I would have to say meeting someone you want a relationship on one is probably a million to one odds but it does happen. I wish I could say we have met, but we've not been able to make plans like that yet.
Els Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 While it is possible, I would definitely kick the defeatist and 'woe is us men' and 'I'm 6' so I can't get a date' attitude before venturing into ANYthing with the intention of meeting women. Anyhow, I met my current bf from playing games, although we played together IRL instead of merely online.
MalachiX Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Personally, I just would feel a little suspect of any girl I met in an online game. Of course, that's totally hypocritical but it just feels kind of odd trying to meet people over something so dorky. On that note though, why do I see so many girls on Team Fortress 2 but none on Left 4 Dead?
Ross PK Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 I'm not really sure why you bought 2 consoles just because your friends are into them and you're not actually into games yourself. But, yeah, people meet through online games all the time, people even sometimes get married in them.
Els Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Because L4D is just brainless and full of smashing brains and guts.
starwolf242 Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 I play on World of Warcraft. I'm a bit geeky... wouldn't go so far as to say nerdy and aside from the odd 'casual sex' seeker, no guys have ever tried to chat me up. I think trying to date in an online game is similar to joining an online dating service or joining a club in order to meet women. The only difference is that the person you talk to doesn't know what you really look like or you them. Actually, some of my male friends on Warcraft play female avatars so you really have no idea who you are talking to. But then that's the risk with everything online. I would say try it but since you don't like game, why not just join match.com or something if you don't want to go out and meet someone?

Of course, that's totally hypocritical but it just feels kind of odd trying to meet people over something so dorky. Well, I don't know anyone personally who goes into games like that with the intention of meeting someone to connect with. I certainly didn't intend to. Its just the odds. I agree with Ross, and I actually know of one other couple that now live together, who met on the MMO I play. You'd be right to be suspect of the gender of anyone on those games but some people are open about their gender, and for some activities, Ventrillo is used for communication/coordination, so you find out that way for sure. But if you meet another player you connect with, and start to like them and its mutual, then you both can choose things you want to reveal and even take the communication outside the game and see where things go.

Because most women will justifiably run screaming from him when he starts advocating violence against women again.
