Jeff1962 Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Got all of my blood work back. Everything looked great except for my testosterone levels, very low. No lack of performance issues but lack of orgasm, irritability, etc. No weight gain, in great shape. I have noticed a slight decrease in strength when I work out. Doc said this is very normal. Hell, I'm only 37 and going thru male menopause? Crippies! Now to my delima. Doc wants me to take a series of steroid shots to bring my testosterone levels back up to where they need to be. #1: This will increase my already high sex drive and this would be ok if my wife were more into it. Found out her Estrogen is low but is afraid of medication for fear of breast cancer. I'm afraid this will cause more stress on our sexual relationship. #2: Since I strength train 4 times a week, I will bulk up and I don't want to look like a body builder. I like my body the way it is. #3: I need my testosterone levels increased to normal levels to be more healthy. I'm more worried about the increase in sexual desire than anything. It will drive me totally nuts. So I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't.
Pleco Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Your wife's estrogen levels are probably half your problem. That is one of the main causes of lack of a sex drive in women, especially older women. You never know...you could get her fixed up and you both might be enjoying normal hormones again.

My wife is very concerned with estrogen therapy though because of an increase in breast cancer risks. I assure her that we can monitor it closely. I understand her concerns. Gues we'll see what happens. I start the shots tomorrow.
quankanne Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 look at this site with your wife, it might provide a solution. You might also see if there's a counter part for male hormones ... bioidentical hormones

quankanne Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 de nada – a friend and I were talking and this alternative treatment came up in our conversation. I know we both were worried about side effects with some Rxs
Samantha0905 Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 I don't think you are going to bulk up much. That would take quite a bit of steroids, a large amount of calories eaten and very heavy lifting. It's a time consuming process. It will increase your sex drive. I can understand your wife's concerns. I'm a bit wary of HRT myself. I doubt it will be an option I choose. Has her doctor discussed any natural ways to increase estrogen?

My Mum takes Evening Primrose Oil for estrogen and has done for a while. Its great stuff apparently..
mark982 Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 jeff, no need to worry about your about your sexual desires. sure they will spike for about 2-3 weeks, then everything "calms" down. been on test shots for years. dr. will only be putting you on low doses, so there's no way you'll end up looking like ronnie colman. i'd be more consirned about you taking more of a proactive stance on your hormone therapy. do some reading, studing. there's more to hrt than just getting the shots.
Author Jeff1962 Posted February 20, 2010 Author Posted February 20, 2010 Thank you all for taking the time to post. I feel GGRREEAATT today. I woke up at 6 am and went for a 6 mile run. I usually only run 4 miles. I feel like I'm 19 again. Tell you one thing though, that shot hurt, not the shot but the hormone being injected, yikes! I feel like doing a little injecting myself.
Lizzie60 Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Oh.. you already got the shot.. I was going to tell you that it might not be a good idea... bc I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve here... If those shots make you more horny.. I'm not sure it's a good idea.. it might create more tension with your wife.. Seems to me.. that only one side of your couple (you) is working towards a better relationship..

Doc says with as low as my testosterone levels were, he was surprised that I had energy to do anything. This is mainly why I started with hormone therapy, for my body, I need it.
