What to think of this? Just friends or flirting?

8 years ago I met this guy through work. He was really smitten, I wasn't really, and I did have a talk and I told him I only saw him as a friend. I moved a couple hours away and we remained friends. Now he is married (happily he says) and lives halfway across the country. He calls every couple months just to say "hi." So last week he called and said "You inspired many poems, you know." (He's a poet with his 2nd book coming out and he's currently finishing up his dissertation.) He tells me I should meet him in Florida in March (he has a reading/whatever there going on) and we can "hang out."

Question - Is this flirting and hinting at an affair or not?

I'm not interested, just wondering.

Oh, OK, that kind of shocks me about him. I always thought he'd be the type who would be totally faithful to his wife. Hmm.

Sounds to me like he's either unhappily married and reaching out to a friend he's had the hots for, to see if you've changed your mind...

or, he thinks you'd be interested to see his work which was inspired by you.

Either way, don't play with him... he's a married man.

He's looking for a fling, no doubt about it.

ha yeah he didn't mention she'd be there. I'd never go for a married man, especially one I'd never been attracted to in the first place.

Tell him his proposal is disrespectful to his wife, to you, and to himself. That should hit home if he has an ounce of decency.

Oh no....I'd tell him you'd be delighted to meet him, you're so looking forward to meeting his wife, what a lucky lady to have such a romantic husband! Does she know you were inspiration for his poems? If not, you'd love to discuss that with her....

Jerk.
