Leia Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 I don't have one and CBA to have one. Lately, there's been one too many threads on Facebook here and other forums I read on, and for most part, I can only see the negative side of it like how one tracks down the partner cheating on him or her through Facebook. I know how good it can be sometimes too, getting in touch with your old schoolmates and long lost friends/relatives. That's all good. But can one really rely on Facebook? It seems that if you want to find out if he or she is seeing someone or in one type of a relationship, just check his Facebook. How can you be sure that he isn't lying about his status? It's unfathomable to me how one relies upon Facebook or any of these networking websites to see the person's status. I also noticed that it's usually the girls that do this. Some girls, anyway.

Because guys don't care that much...or think that much about it. And if they do, they're either crazy, complete douchebags, or have other similar personal issues.

Those that put the "in a relationship with .... " are in the minority. From what I know, most of them are being put on a spot by the girlfriends to declare their status-ship.

meerkat stew Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Great social tool, highly recommend it. Relationship toxicity potential, caution.

Author Leia Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 Facebook isn't the problem. It's people who don't discipline themselves enough to BLOCK an ex that is... It's not even ex-es. These people are relying on Facebook to check on the guys they are considering dating. Isn't it much better to ask family/friends/colleagues? I don't think one should rely on a networking website.

Eh...it just makes it easier I guess...but it sure isn't as fun as it was back in grade school when you'd go through about four different friends to find out if your crush liked you too...? Oooh...the memories...of always finding out that the girl didn't like me...
harmfulsweetz Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 I do this! It's actually easier than asking loads of people about it. I mean, most people don't have 'in a relationship' as their status, if they clearly check and update their FB regularly enough to change it if they aren't. I actually found out the guy I was flirting with loads had a girlfriend via facebook. Very useful tool.
lino Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 I think that's really sad and only further diminishing the real-life interactions between people.
phineas Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Usually, women tell me upfront their single when i'm talking to them. It's a strange experiance. Maybe it has to do with age? I'm 38 now. When I was 28 & facebook didn't exist I had to just strap on a pair & ask them out & see if the played the "boyfriend" card if they turned me down. On facebook, I think my profile is basically blank. It seems like too much work to edit it. LOL!
