Long (well, medium) time lurker, first time poster here.

Reason I wanted to post is I read this interesting article on voice and attractiveness about a month back and it got me thinking.

Title:

Ratings of voice attractiveness predict sexual behavior

and body configuration.

What better place to discuss than a dating forum!

Essentially, the article says theres a great deal that people take from the voice of a person. Especially opposite sex.

First Paragraph:

There is growing evidence that the sound of a person’s voice may convey important information. Studies have shown that listeners who hear voice samples can infer the speaker’s socioeconomic status , personality traits , and emotional and mental state attributes related to deception . Listeners exposed to voice samples are also capable of estimating the age, height, and weight of speakers with the same degree of accuracy achieved by examining photographs. Independent raters are also capable of matching a speaker’s voice with the person’s photograph over 75% of the time. Hughes found that individuals with symmetrical morphological traits were rated as having more attractive voices, and as deviations from bilateral symmetry increased, ratings of voice attractiveness decreased.

Then the article goes on to discuss a study which showed a large correlation between voice ratings and sexual ratings, among other things.

Basically the study had subjects record their voices simply reciting 1 - 10 slowly. Then had other subjects rate them on a scale of 1 to 5. (1 = very unattractive, 2 = somewhat unattractive, 3 = average, 4 = somewhat

attractive, 5 = very attractive).

Anyone here up for doing that? Im very curious to know what my voice sounds like. On playback, it sounds very different from what I thought I sounded like.

This is why I have all my internet dates call me and at least leave a voicemail.

The last guy I can even hear his "sweetness" in his voice..I can't wait to meet him.
