taintedlove Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I went to a group interview where there were a few recruiters. There was one man that was particularly interested in me. He followed me during group activities and he kept sitting near me. It was no surprise that he picked me to talk to. It all went really well, he kept smiling at me and nodding when I talked about my experience and hobbies. There was lots of eye contact and smiling. I thought I left the session feeling like I did quite well. However, I found out from a few people that I was the only one that wasn't offered a position. On top of that, he never even asked for my contact. I was gutted. I didn't end up getting the guy or the job. What went wrong here? It could be many reasons but what's your view on this? Taking note, I was just as qualified as everyone else and I was the only one that didn't get a position. Thanks for your opinions!
Vintage79 Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I have hosted group interviews before, and usually it's pretty easy to pick out 1-2-3 people that I didn't want to hire. Basically, me, or one of the other guys that was hosting the interviews would frequently targe these "rejects" and be nicer to them to help mitigate HR concerns and to help them feel good, even though they had basically already been rejected. Not necessarily the best story, but they may have been doing something similar. Two women who I rejected in such situations immediately asked me out for dates after rejection because they had misinterpreted me being nice to them as me wanting them. In these situations, I was by no means interested, regardless of the highly, highly questionable tactic of dating some one you just shot down for a job. Basically, unless you're interviewing for a role in a porno, don't think anything of the signs that you may get from interviewers. If they want to try to date, wait for them to call...chances are they're just easing the pain, nerves of an interview and mitigating HR/law suit concerns.
