What have been your favorite gifts you have ever gotten on Valentine's Day. How about the worst?

Posted

My perfect valentines would be a meal cooked together...empty house...couple glasses of vino..hot shower....loud music...and lots of sex..and fall asleep in each others arms(come on its valentines -- gotta be romantic, right?)

Sounds perfect to me ... :-)

Something thoughtful..but girly :)

Like if he bought me a new dress and a matching necklace..

I think that's hard to buy for a woman.

I would settle for Quartz book ends

It's a sad state when a box of chocolates would be a great gift for me. All of my gifts have been horrid.

I'd say my worst gift received would be from my last ex who gave me absolutely nothing for Valentine's. I generally don't mind so much if there's at least a demonstration of something warm and affectionate. After I made him his favourite meal, cleaned up his place and made fresh baked cinnamon rolls for dessert, he didn't even wish me a happy Valentine's Day. He didn't even thank me for cooking dinner. In fact, I ended up doing the dishes while he went to finish some work. Then later that night he insisted we watch home videos of his family reunion and he got testy with me when I didn't enjoy it or the lame jokes he said on camera. How romantic. He asked me later that night why I wasn't in such a chatty mood. I didn't bother even responding. I'm not sure what I was more angry with, the fact that he didn't even acknowledge all the work I did that evening with a simple thank you (which would have been enough) or the fact that he was clueless not to know to say thank you.

I'd want something thoughtful done for me. Maybe a home cooked meal where I don't have to do a thing and watching a nice movie while cuddling on the couch. I don't need to have things. I just appreciate the gesture of something that demonstrates a little care and concern for me.

One of the worst V-Day pressies I ever got was being taken out to dinner. It wasn't the guy's fault; he tried really hard bless him. But the restaurant was packed, with extra tables squeezed in to make more profit; there was a crappy set menu which wasn't even that nice, they hurried us in and out so they could replace us with more people, and it cost a fortune. The same goes for the flowers I've received on V-Day; without exception they've been poor quality mass-produced roses crammed together by the florist with no care whatsoever because she has a million more bunches to make that day. Nowadays I always tell my bf not to buy flowers or dinner on V-Day because it's a rip-off; I always cook dinner for us at home instead.

The best V-Day pressies I ever received were diamond earrings, nice lingerie, my favourite sweets, and a book he thought I'd be interested in (not all on the same V-Day though!). To me those things seemed thoughtful and nice, and the lingerie even fitted!

But if we're talking about my perfect V-Day pressie, it would have to be something like a surprise trip to Paris and dinner in an intimate little restaurant, or maybe something like a designer bag that I've had my eye on (I want a Mulberry Roxanne in Oak leather please!). Or maybe even a stunning engagement ring! Ah well, I can always dream...

Ditto :bunny:

My worst was a "to the my best friend and wife on Valentine's Day" plaque! I was in utter shock and he was crushed by my reaction :lmao: ... that after 11 years of marriage.

I used to think flowers and expensive presents shows how much a guy " love" me, but I think I have since settled down for " wow, you understand me so well".

The way to my heart or at least to win points is chocolate. I would say tiramisu is my favorite dessert at this moment, but my mind has been fixated on Godiva for a while. So if a guy actually jumps the gun and get some Godiva chocoloate, he's definitely dating material ( for me that is).

A weekend trip away! Trouble is for Valentines Day it has to be booked well in advance, if it's anywhere good.

If you don't know each other well enough yet, do a little research. What's she like? My weaknesses are books and artisan-made jewelry, what are hers? Does she have any searchable wishlists on, say, Amazon or Etsy?

I always thought flowers and candy were a little cliche, personally. Once I got a gorgeous, huge living plant in a beautiful pot, I loved it.

This was not a V Day worst of gift, but a Christmas gift. My boyfriend who broke my heart nearly ten years ago (My GOD it's been that long!), threw a huge tantrum and broke up with me two weeks before Christmas. He was angry about the fact that I was seeing a therapist (mostly, I would like to add, because of his bad behavior and what it was doing to me) and decided I was mentally ill. Then he came back because he had made a mistake. He had mentioned to me weeks before that he was thinking of buying me jewelry.

Know what I got instead? A Yellow Submarine Beatles cookie jar. It took nearly every ounce of my self control not to smash it into the wall. This was the sign that he's "just not that into me". But, that was the past, what are you going to do?

My last ex didn't believe in Valentine's day. :lmao:

Let's see...I think that the perfect Valentine's day present would be...

SCENE 1: drinking wine, getting all of the chairs, blankets and sheets out and making a GIANT fort out of the living room! You know, with tunnels and stuff. Then we would be all "romantic" inside of the fort. After that, we'd order pizza (or I would cook something awesome) and we'd play oldschool Nintendo. After that, we would drink more and get more romantic in the giant living room fort and then fall asleep.

SCENE 2: I get all dressed up and super cute, we go somewhere nice to eat, we walk around the city or go out dancing, then we go to a cabin somewhere and get all <3'ed.

Bonus if I get a present!

Sigh.

Okay, so I've given this more thought.

I get dressed up and super cute, we order whatever food and go out to a club or something public (I love seeing people all happy and couply on V day)! We go home or to a cabin or to somewhere, I make munchies and pour wine while manly man starts the living room fort, and then we do it in the living room fort.

Again, bonus if I get something heart-shaped.

Best GIFT: a bunch of CDs he burned himself of the sappiest, lamest songs I love...hehe...He is a busy man and for him to have taken the time to sit and burn those cds...well...I was impressed. Then he took me to a Bob Dylan concert....ahmm? I thought he already died? LOL..sorry, just kidding...Obviously, a bit of a generational difference...BUT the concert was awesome! I was wearing stilettos and got very tired dancing and acting like a fool -he carried me on his back to the car after the concert (we were parked really far!)...so sweet and so strong

Worst: Neiman Marcus gift card from xH with a card that said "here's something for you for Valentine's Day"...how creative !

I'm not into Valentine's Day gifts.

My favorite thing to do on V-Day is just spend it together drinking wine, making a special dinner together, maybe getting in the hot tub together; watching an old movie...stuff like that.

Also, if he gets me flowers other than roses
