Well me and this girl both have feelings for eachother....we've been trying to go out on a date for the past 3 weeks...we fought a couple of times (she's with me in university) she asked for time off and I gave it to her then I asked her if she'd like to go out on valentines day and she said yes...infact she's really excited about it and says she can't wait ! we' ve been repeatedly saying I miss you so much....

So now our first date is on valentines...I'm supposed to take her to a fancy restaurant and shes supposed to dress short and sexy and u know how it goes...but i've been thinking...I'm taking too fast for a first date...even if its on valentine's....I strongly feel that we're gonna kiss or make out though lol

So I thought about telling her to take it easy on the date so we wont be nervous and she should just dress normal and just take her to starbucks ! is that ok or is it just lame ? my ex girlfriend whom I took to starbucks said that starbucks is NOT a good idea for a first date....

what do you think I should do ? stick to the fancy restaurant and the formal clothing on the first date ? or take it easy and chill like teenagers ?

You don't have to go to a fancy restaurant...just a nice place. You don't have to dress in formal attire, just some nice clothes. However, taking a lady to Starbucks for Valentines Day is about the lamest, dumbest, most ignorant, idiotic, wacko thing I've ever heard of in my life. So if you do take her for coffee and a roll, don't expect to see or hear from her again. GEEZE!

omg no i'm not a troll lol....I have myself a real dilemma here....I mean..for a first date...something simple is the best choice (starbux) but at the same time it's valentine's day ! you should take the girl out to a fancy restaurant...okay...if I do want to take her to a fancy restaurant and pay **** loads of money... ITS OUR FIRS DATE ! im not spending 200$ on a first date that's just sad !

look I just want a good place to sit that fits both criteria....I got a car soo that make a difference ?

A Starbucks in the University Town...you just picked one of the possibly most crowded (depending on the time of the semester), loudest, and most unromantic places for Valentine's Day, which I am certain will disappoint your date to a degree of embarrassment. Seriously, put some effort. At least take her to a local independent cafe that hosts some art performance.

Valentine's day is not about how much you spend...it is all about how much romantic mood you can create. She will be content with a rose and a dinner at a warm and cozy local Thai restaurant if you can make her feel special. Yelp exists for a reason! Search for a local foodie spot and take her there...good food cannot leave anyone disappointed at least.

By the way, people here talk about the first date at a cafe a lot when it is online date where you don't know what kind of person you deal with, therefore make it casual. You have known her for over three weeks....jeeez.

Yeah. Take her to Starbucks. She can grab a table and then watch, impressed, as you manfully queue up to get a couple of coffees and maybe a even a poppy-seeded muffin. You can turn around and give her the thumbs up periodically, as you get closer to the cash register.

Lmao, you would never hear from me again if you took me to Starbucks on V Day. This has to be a wind-up...?

I agree with what's been said - if you must take her to a cafe, take her to a small independent place. Otherwise a rose and dinner at a relatively cheap restaurant would suffice.

Do you actually really like this girl? Do you want to impress her? Or are you not sure you like her, hence you don't want to waste money on dinner? If you like her, do not take her to Starbucks or you won't see her for dust...

Prepare a picnic basket with wine, a blanket and dessert. Take her to a nice park ... even that is better than Starbucks. It shows you made the effort.

Starbucks ... are you for real???

Good question...infact I thought of this b4...well the girl is really hot and she seems to like me...I know i'll have so much fun with her and if she's simple and understanding then I'll get serious....but I don't trust hot girls quickly (bad experiences)

good thing I heared it from a girl...don't take her out to starbucks...at this point am starting to feel the carrot climb up my a**

Why don't you ask her to go dutch then you don't have to worry about paying for her on a first date? If she raises objections about having to pay with her own money on the first date then she's definitely not a keeper. It's 2010 not 1910, people should have no problem paying their separate bill and doing things equally.

No, No, No! That's the coffeeshop equivalent of taking her to McDonalds. Esp. not on V. Day.

Small, quiet, cheap restaurant would do.

oh gosh that's right...starbucks is equivalent to mcdonalds...i wud never take a girl to mcdonalds on the first date OR on Vday...EVER !

What Leia said. Surely you can find a park nearby... and make sure it's a nice one, not just an unkempt plot of land someone forgot about. If you live somewhere where it's snowing and sh*t, obviously this isn't an option for you. But I'm sure you can find a local Italian place that has decent food for a decent price. Something candlelit and nice that isn't going to break your bank. Just make sure you call ahead and make a reservation or you won't get a table; that is, if it's not too late already.

Eat all the food and dessert, and drink all the wine. She'll think you are romantic anyways. ;)

If she said "let's go to Starbucks", then yes, go there. Otherwise, no. Under no other circumstances should you even consider Starbucks for a first date on Valentine's Day. That's the Ben & Jerry's 52 flavours of wrong!

Okay, that seriously made me laugh my a$$ off! Kudos to you for that!
