He dumped me for his ex gf out of the blue. I don't get it?

I'm very confused. I was dating a guy I've known for awhile. A year ago he wanted to date me but I said no, so he found another girl who he's been in a rocky relationship for about 6-8 months. He brokeup with her because of how she was and he wants to gives us a try, so we start dating. We start liking each other alot and he immediately wants us to be a couple but he finds out that he's getting deployed. A day after we are together as a couple, he asks me to slow things down, so we do.

 

A week later into it, he becomes distant and dumps me for his ex-girlfriend that he explained that him and his friends hated because she called him to tell him she misses him. When he calls me to explain things we get into a fight and he tells me how inlove they still are, how she's going to wait for him for a year when he’s away, and how it's going to last forever this time. He contradicts himself and says he likes me, just doesn’t think I’m the one. I didn’t agree with him on this and told him that I think he’s just going to get hurt. As the fight heats up, he asks me what if he dumped his ex for me. I told him it didn’t matter and he had already made his choice and threw me in the garbage. He says he didn’t do that. We talked a few times after the fight and when I asked him if we were just a fling, he wouldn’t respond (told me we really didn’t date when we did) or let his ex know that we did date. He deleted me on myspace with another girl who has the same name changed his relationship status to into a relationship but kept me on his facebook where it says he’s still single. Jealous girlfriend found out about me maybe?

 

All I’m wondering is if it doesn’t work out, will he know he made a mistake and come back to talk to me again? And why is he acting like this. We’re not talking now since he’s with his ex girlfriend. She’s a jealous person from what I’ve been told from him and his friends. Just sucks that all of his friends and family liked me but he went for the one they all can’t stand. I’m not so sure I’d wait around for him but I don’t get why all of this happened out of the blue when he talked about how happy I made him and how he wanted to be with me because I was very sweet and kind to him. Any insight on this situation would be helpful because I’m so very confused! Maybe all of this is bad timing? If he brokeup with her beforehand, won’t that happen again?

Hm. The guy's a jerk, who won't admit what you had was a relationship, seeming to imply it was a fling, and he's made it clear he'd sooner be with someone who everyone he knows can't stand, than you. There's not much more to say, I'm afraid. Wish there was some hope for you and him, but there isn't. She could be Cruella De Vil, but he chose her, and that's that.
