greatgirlfriend Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Another of my pet peeves are those who write like they are back in school. I realize that not every one is a great writer, but you'd think people would look at what they wrote. This is a perfect example: plz contat me becuz i want to meeat u and ru 2b mine? Here's another one: iam ok imet someone on here for luch over complamentry to me! Another one: ru 2 good 2b true? their peeps r beaties. Huh? I realize we all make grammar mistakes. I'll often find something after I posted. However, these are beyond terrible. I delete anyone who writes like this.
EM47 Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 yeah, it's quite funny. and i like seeing things like that because that is my competition.
Author greatgirlfriend Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 The sad thing is most of these guys are older (by older I mean older than 20's). You'd think they would write better. I don't date guys who are on the stupid side. I am very intelligent and the be honest, someone like these guys wouldn't work. Maybe they are very intelligent, but they should be showing that right away but writing sentences that make sense.

Author greatgirlfriend Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 I noticed that after I wrote it and they wouldn't let me edit it. Should be: Maybe they are very intelligent, but they should be showing that right away by writing sentences that make sense.

This to the nth degree...if they are not trying hard at the beginning, do you expect them to try hard after the wedding?
Left in a Lurch Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I used to be excellent at spelling and grammar. As my career progressed so did my email usage. With automatic spell check it became very easy to not care that much when I typed something. I compose around 30-40 short and long emails a day while trying to do scheduled work so it becomes very easy to put spelling and grammar on a low priority and become more reliant on spell check while I am repying to emails while working hard on something else. I get a lot of texts every day too which really requires shorter responses and ad hoc abbreviations so it becomes a bad habit. As a result I find my spelling and grammar skills outside the computer world have deteriorated dramatically. Basically the more I use computers the worse I get. I am well educated and USED to be able to spell anything, now I have to look up words a lot more and have a harder time getting my thoughts structured properly. Maybe cut some people some slack because their skills are rusty for a reason. It's kind of like people not being able to cook as well as in the past, there are a lot more places to eat and take out food and a better variety so cooking skills get rusty and learning how to cook is not that much of a priority for some people.
Author greatgirlfriend Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 haha I know, I'm just teasing you. I just knew that I'd write something wrong and I did. That's why I ignore minor mistakes but some things are so obvious.

Your grammar is fine. Like I said, I understand minor problems, such as spelling a hard word incorrectly. The examples I posted were ones where they could have edited their mistakes.

M-be sum f these u hate are h-capped nd hv to type with a stick n their teeth? The sad thing is, that's better grammar than many who have pmed me. It's possible a few are disabled, but I'd bet that's a small percentage.
New_Life08 Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 OMG I know! Even if it's because they are trying to shorten it with abbreviations...it still puts you off. It's like they're in a hurry and couldn't even take the time to write out a sentence or two.

It's like they're in a hurry and couldn't even take the time to write out a sentence or two. Not just the abbreviations that bother me (though I hate when people shortened y to "u", are to "r" and be to "b"). Common words are spelled wrong (I had a guy say he had a "katt").
Author greatgirlfriend Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 This is the one that really gets to me. i write like this because i cant be bothered to take the time to capitalize or use my keyboard correctly.o and i don't bother skipping two spaces between sentences either. How could I forget this one, although you don't see it so much here. ALL CAPS! I once had a guy email me a long story about his previous girlfriends. I hadn't even spoken to this guy before. The story was one long run on sentence, with no capitals, and awful grammar. No periods, no commas, nothing. I never contacted the guy back. Besides who emails someone they never spoke to before a long story about all their previous girlfriends?
Green Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I laugh at spelling and grahmar! Forget the periods & commas k
New_Life08 Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 The sad thing is ... all programs seem to have a spell check feature these days. So you know it's because they don't want to take the time.

St. Nick Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 The thread title said people with bad grammar. Now the posters want to stick to bashing guys. What's up with this? Anyway, I hate it when women start their loveshack intros with: "Ok, here's the deal". Why do women always put "OK" at the beginning of their threads? It's ridiculous. I also hate it when they say, "And then he goes" instead of saying, "And then he said". I also hate stuff like putting "super" in front of everything: "super creepy, super cute, super nice". Or when they write their stories like they type: "I mean, like, how could he go and say something so hurtful to me and everything, ya know? Doesn't he know saying something like that is so not funny and I'm, like, super sad right now?" That's garbage.

Did you really have to start a thread just to complain about people with bad grammar online? While you are at it, why not complain about the foul smell of exhaust gases or the unpleasant feeling of wet feet? r u 4 realz???
