monkey00
So we've been together for a month and a half so far. However over the weekend I had asked her what her favorite flower is, and she told me it's a stargazer lily. However with the notion that I already asked her, she probably already expects me to get it for her on Vday. Let's weigh the odds, if I get ther that, I'd want to get a bouquet of it OR alternatively I could get her one rose. But considering that we've been together for such a short period of time I feel I shouldn't go all out and should stick with the basics of a rose. Now if I go with the stargazer bouquet, I'm starting off on a high note...the next time around I get her a rose..it'll be like wtf? What flower do you guys think I should get? fallendisguise
No get her her favorite flower ... even if it just one..We don't share this info the hell of it...she would love it! I agree. I would love to get my favorite flower! I think it would be refreshing to do something out of the norm for V day, which is roses. I think it would surprise her and probably make her happy. You don't have to go all out and get a big bouqet. Maybe go to a florist and get one or two with some smaller flowers to accompany it. On a side note, I also don't think if you get her a different flower later she will be disappointed. I love flowers and any kind is welcome. A lot of my girl friends feel that way too. OnlyJake
Get her 1/2 dozen roses w/ her fav flower in the middle & dress it up with greens... This is a great idea. Were I in your shoes, I would probably do either this, or make a date to make dinner together and get her one lily in a bud vase, something like that. I'm not the most creative person, but my point is that I think there's a compromise in there somewhere.
melodymatters
dude its better to give a chick nothing at all than one rose. its like leaving the waiter one penny as a tip Thank you ! Unless you are in high school ( and even then) one rose is insulting, cheap and immature. You can buy them in a conveniance store for a buck ! Give her one stargazer lily ( or like others said, mix it with a few other elements) and a box of candy, or her favorite cookies or a CD or book or SOMETHING you know she likes. Whats it going to cost, like 20 bucks ?
Author monkey00
you guys are right, I went to the local florist yesterday during lunch and he gave me similar ideas about mixing a stargazer or two with roses or other flowers which I think I'll likely do coupled with a nice dinner. Thanks all.
sally4sara
I am a floral designer. Get her the Stargazer. It is her favorite. It will last much, much longer. The roses you buy on Valentines Day were harvested in December and sit wrapped in a holding room till they are distributed to the floral shops who only buy them because they are the expected purchase by people who celebrate the "holiday". They are the worst roses anyone could buy as it is the worst time of the year for this flower. We have to order them from countries that use toxic pesticides to grow them and chemicals to preserve their color that are not allowed in the States. Often, they contain smelly bacteria they pick up in the holding rooms that causes them to not even open to appear as the lovely flower you remember, but rather a lump of smelly, sticky rot. It is a huge rip off.
Crazy Magnet
I've got a super close friend who is a florist, she HATES vday and all the roses that come with it. Roses are just a tad over done on this holiday I think. lol What you selected was a great idea. Flowers are always great, personalized flowers are amazing! A little thoughtfulness this early into the relationship should go a long way in this girl's book.

It is a huge rip off. Depends on where you get them from. I have a guy who imports directly from Ecuador and they come right to Miami to him. I get two dozen roses for $11. My GF gets roses every couple of weeks, this week will be red of course. Along with the roses this year she will get a box of Godiva truffles and three lace thong panties; one white, one black and one hot pink from VS. I will bring along a bottle of champaign as well.
