Okay, to get straight to the point, I've been slowly falling in love with my best friend. He, however, believes that he's in love with this one girl who absolutely hates him and whom he barely knows. He's most likely going to ask her out tomorrow, and she knows about it and is planning on screaming at him and everything as a way of saying "no" for the second time. :( Now here's the deal. On the unselfish side, I want him to stop liking her because I know it hurts him to be rejected and ignored all the time by her and I never ever want him to be upset. :( On the selfish side, I want him to stop liking her because, frankly, I want him to love me like I love him. Although it looks bleak for me in terms of the fact that he believes he's in love with the someone else, it may not be as difficult as expected to win him over condsidering the following:

- he's been flirting with me a lot lately, like poking my sides more frequently and little innocent touches on my arms and stuff

- he talks a little bit less about the other girl despite his plans to ask her out tomorrow

- he's been sending more frequent texts saying things like, "I miss you" and "I wish the clock would go by faster... I don't like the weekends. They're boring and I don't see you as much" and stuff like that to me

- he hugs me more lately

&

- when I was sad last Friday he gave me a kiss on the cheek.

Now, this being said, how do I go about turning his affections from her to me? I don't know if this is one of those things that are easier said than done or if I'm just making it more complicated than it has to be in my mind. At any rate, thanks for taking the time to help me out! I'm excited now. :bunny:

Go get him. Jump on his lap when he's watching T.V. and tell him that he can't ask this girl out because he's going to be too busy with you!

That would get my attention lol

Haha aww!!! :p That's a brilliant idea! Would that work though? I mean, he thinks he's in LOVE with the girl! Do you really think sitting in his lap and giving him a little extra flirtatious attention is going to sway such a firm conviction?

Desperate situations call for drastic measures.

You'll find out if he's in love with her after you do that!

I hope he's not one of those people that get hung up on those those they don't really know, and can never be with - I can't help think they're into them so much precisely because they don't really know them, and can never be with them.

LOL! Maybe you're right. Hmm... I have school tomorrow. Instead of sitting on his lap while he watches TV (neither of us watch TV anyhow) what should I do as an alternative? :o

Interesting possibility. If this is the case, how do you suggest winning him over instead?

Tell him you are coming over....and you are going to cook, while he sits down and relaxes. Yes, yes very nice, as a man, I would like this alot.

Get him a glass of wine...

then after he's done with the glass and puts it away...

jump into his lap. when he talks tell him to shoosh and lay one on him.

Depending on what happens, the rest is up to you!

Yes, definitely try that out and tell us how it goes! :D

That's so amusing! Okay, I will definitely try that or at least something close to it depending on what I can pull off. ;) Any other ideas before I set out on this adventure?

Oh, and just for peace of mind and/or a fair warning, what are the possible outcomes of this action? Like, what's the best/worst that could happen?

We'll find out! Either way, you're a total trooper and I'm looking forward to the story. Even if it doesn't turn out as planned, you still rock.

Sounds like you need a playlist with "There's Your Trouble" by Dixie Chicks and "You Belong With Me" on it :)

In my experience, if you want to force the issue get drunk by yourselves. This worked for me on 2 friends in college, but those relationships don't really last. If you want a lasting relationship, you will have to be very patient and let him take the lead, but be really nice. Also try to be less available to him whenever he wants.

Kk! So here's what I did:

I was already at school when my best friend walked in with a bunch of roses to give to the girl he apparently loved. He said hello all excitedly and I was like, "Hey! What are the flowers for?" He said, looking at me funny, "For after I ask out Katie, of course." and I said, "Oh! I thought you'd have given that idea up." He looked at me really strange. His eyebrows furrowed, he tilted his head, he scratched his hair with the hand that wasn't holding the flowers. "Why would I give up?" he asked. "Well, I thought you'd have seen that someone who actually loves you is available to you right now and that asking out someone who hates you is rather pointless," I replied briskly.

I stood there with my most cynical expression on my face and he stood in front of me with a puzzled one on his. Then Katie walked right between us, dressed up for the cheerleading thing that would be going on in the gym that afternoon. His eyebrows raised and he looked at me with wide eyes. "Be right back. Now's my chance." He ruffled up my hair and chased after her. I was unfazed. I leaned up against my locker and applied a little bit of lipgloss while I watched. I saw him tap her arm gingerly and she turned around, a bit surprised, and then looked up into his face and sneered. I saw her mouth move as if she was saying, "Hello, what do you want?" but the snarl didn't leave her upper lip. (Her blonde curls should have turned into snakes... It would have better matched the expression on her face.) I watched him pull the flowers out from behind his back. I could see from where I was that his hands and knees were trembling.

I couldn't see his face because his back was to me, but I knew when he asked her out by her face. One of her eyebrows raised, her snarl went away to let her mouth fall open slightly, and then she narrowed her eyes in a disgusted manner, said a "No" I couldn't hear, said a few more things that I couldn't make out but that looked like obscenities, and then she turned on her heel, leaving him standing there with flowers.

I turned around as well, facing my locker, pretending I hadn't been watching, fixing my hair absently with my locker mirror, sorting out my books, and anything else I could think of to make myself appear to be completely unaware of the outcome. I felt a tap on my arm and spun around. My best friend looked at me and sighed, then said "She said no. And she yelled at me." He looked so dejected. I patted his cheek and said, "Well then OBviously she doesn't deserve you. You got her roses and everything! What an idiot. The least she could have done is turn you down gently." He made a small, sad smile and stuffed the flowers into his locker, then came back feeling a little better, as if stuffing the flowers somewhere made him feel like he'd gotten back at Katie somehow.

"Well, you mentioned that someone else likes me. Who likes me, Candie?" He watched me carefully, as if my face would betray the answer before my voice. I heard the wordplay in his question and I said, "Yes, actually!" and grinned. "Wait, what?" he asked, looking puzzled and amused. I answered, "You said, 'Who likes me, Candie?' and I answered you. Yes." I grinned again. "Wait, hold up. I'm confused." He put a hand over his face and then took it away and blinked like he wasn't used to the light. I laughed, "C'mon, you! Think about it." "You like me, Candie?" he asked quietly. "Yes," I said smiling again. He looked at me carefully, like he thought I was lying. "But you're too good for me, Candie. You always have guys asking you out and stuff..." Then it was my turn to look surprised. I shook off the surprise, however, because it made me look less confidant. "I'm not too good for you! We're perfect for each other! Look at all the fun we have together. We get along so well. There's never a dull moment with us," I said looking up at him. He was quiet for a moment, then just said this awestruck, "Wow," and then looked me in the eyes again.

He started to part his lips to say something more. That's when I took my chance. I put my hand behind his neck and stood on tip-toes and gave him a long kiss on the lips. And he kissed me back. When I drew myself away and looked at him, he was smiling again and he looked slightly giddy. He took off his sea-shell necklace and partially knelt down, so that he was a little below eye-level with me. "Candie, would you go out with me?" and I said, "Yes" real excitedly and gave him another kiss. He put the necklace around my neck and smiled again. He ruffled up my hair while he stood back up and then he tilted up my chin and kissed my forehead. Then he said, "Better get to class. See you, beautiful."

Thanks for your advice and everything, peoples! I don't know about Glee or Sixteen Candles, but maybe I should check it out to see what my post is compared to? LOL! (btw, what's a troll post?) To answer someone's question, we're both 17. And yes, I'm really happy and excited. Tomorrow we have no school so we're going to hang out and have a snowball fight or something. :D Thanks again everybody!

Love,

Candie
