I am looking into cleaning out my colon.

Not for any particular reason, I just want to do it.

What are the pros/cons and can anyone recommend a good over-the-counter product?

You know.. for medical advices like that.. maybe the best thing would be to talk to your doctor first.. or see a pharmacist...

Please.. please.. do NOT ask medical advices on a public forum...

We have noooo idea of your health condition..

Yes I see.

I've already asked my GP (I've had the same one for 10+ years) so he knows my entire health history.

My Ex-Wife's cooking was a pretty good colon cleanse ...

That's not over the counter though..

There is this thread on LS about it...

I'll bet there are more of them too..

Just look at the bottom of of the thread for other threads that are like yours..

That's good...But I'm not actually "clogged", my stools are actually pretty regular.

Not for any particular health reason, but my friend at work showed me pictures of what the intestines/colon looks like and it grossed me out, so now I'd like mine cleansed.

Because even though I trust my GP, I always prefer to get more than just one opinion.

In this case, my doctors opinion as well as public opinion (non-medical).

This isn't really a medical thing, Lizzie. It's just dietary. Doctors don't need to be involved. I think it's a fair question.

Thank you Hot Carl.

I was just wondering if anyone ever tried it and what their opinions were and which product they tried. I have a couple friends who have tried it and I've asked them too. It's really not that big of a deal either way.

All I ever did was buy a psyllium fiber supplement. I kind of doubt anything more elaborate than that is required. If you've never done it before, then I suggest you start with a low dose and work up. It makes a big difference to how I feel.

I'd recommend it to everyone, but then the price of the fiber would go up. So I'm just recommending it to you and hope you keep it to yourself.

Well I can't keep it to myself, it's on a public forum now :lmao:.

But thanks for the info, I actually used to take those a few years back, I'll have to check it out again but I am leaning more towards one of those cleansing kits, I think there are some that have that particular fiber in it so I will give it a go.

Colon cleansing is basically just a detox to clean out your system and promote a healthier digestion.

I've done it. But I went about it using natural options. I eat alot of fiber and fresh veggies and vegetables.

There's alot of people who go to colon cleansing clinics or use laxatives. These are fast solutions but what they do is it remove more water from your body than waste.

I suggest that you try sticking to a clean, fiber- ful diet for two weeks before considering any fast solutions.

Here is a list of good detox food:

Berries ( any kind)

Banana ( high in potassium)

Broccoli ( fiber)

celery

carrots

grains ( go for more brown foods like whole grain breads and oatmeal)

etc...

Try to avoid starch, sugar, and anything processed.

I have to warn you that the longest you should go on on a cleansing diet is 1-2 weeks. At first you'll be more lightheaded and dizzy because your body will be adjusting but after a while ( when the toxins are gone) you'll be be energized. After the 2 week mark, you can start incorporating starch into your diet but do try to keep sugar and processed food to a minimum.

I would also suggest that if you're not getting enough fiber from organic foods, then get yourself a bottle of metamucil.

They're better than cleaning kits on the market.

Metamucil is psyllium fiber mixed with lots of sugar. You can get straight fiber and sweeten it however you want. That's way more cost effective. I mix it with milk and flaxseed oil. No sugar.

A bowl of raisin bran, a cup of coffee and a cigarette

Thats all you need

That just makes you poop. There are wastes in your colon/intestines that aren't easily digested and remain in your system for years, it's pretty gross.

There is little real evidence to prove that is true.

I'm trying to remember that lemon juice cleanse diet my boss did...

Lemon juice

maple syrup

pinch of cayanne pepper.....

drink that several times a day, only that and it cleans you right out...

If you google it, it should come up....

Have anything to back up that bold statement? Or did you drink the infomercial Kool-Aid.

You might want to study up on how the digestive system works and how the body moves waste thru the colon.

It is totally impossible for there to be toxins or waste left in your colon for years.. impossible for it to be in there for months too.. weeks maybe.. but the chances are if it was weeks you would be in the emergency room for pain and rectal bleeding from being constipated to the point that nothing is moving and have a blockage.

Maybe for days till the waste is moved thru muscle movements on down and out of the body.

I think you should also consult a doctor about whether of not you need the cleanse, since you believe that toxins can harbor there for years then you very well may be putting yourself thru quite a bit for nothing.

By the way.. all the info out there that speaks of toxins in your colon for years are just the people selling the products and trying to use scare tactics to sell them rather than need.

Fiber man.. just keep eating your daily fiber....
