Yes, every relationship has one, or two or five, or in my girlfriends case 35.

What pains me the most, apart from the sheer number is the fact that she still has contact with a third of these people.

We were even going to move in with one of them until she finally told me that they had history a week or so before hand.

Just tonight she said one of her exe's messaged her to find out if he could stay with us one weekend. umm NO!

I don't think a relationship can successfully move forward without leaving the past as just that - THE PAST!

Thoughts? Similar situations? Advice?

Agreed. Depends what kind of girlfriend you have though, the flirty kind who always needs attention from men, and can't let them go. Or the kind that has relegated them into the friendzone and sees them as such.

I got myself into a ridiculous situation with someone and his ex who he was 'friends' with who I was expected to embrace as a bosom female buddy. It all got horribly complicated when it turned out she didn't want to be an ex any more and well, basically the ex is no longer an ex and I lost someone very important to me.

Having said that, a good friend of mine still meets an ex of hers for coffee and chats about his current relationship woes - like once every 2 months or so, they don't ring and have long chats on the phone, he doesn't stay over, he wasn't invited to her wedding. She was with him for 7 years and said that after such a long time it would feel strange to have him not in her life on any level since they shared so much and that their relationship ended up being very much like 2 friends towards the end. She's married and has a child and wouldn't go near this guy sexually ever, ever again. So, I guess it all depends on what kind of personality your girlfriend has.
