I am struggling recently with one of the worst moments in my entire life and I am still searching for remedy for help... Many people told me that only positive thinking can help me but I feel powerless....

I found a short article written by Dr Janet Crain, which touches on it:

"Power of thoughts is immense may sound like a cliché to many. But I have come across so many individuals who have actually changed their life by determined and positive thinking that it is hard for me to ignore it.

i hope that you agree that thoughts are actually the starting point on which our actions are based. If you are 100 percent determined to succeed, come what may, then there is no reason that you will not succeed because accordingly you will work hard towards your goals.

This does not mean that there will be all work and no play for you. On the contrary, hard work and determined efforts will actually fill you with a sense of achievement, making you more relaxed and a fun-loving person.

Another common characteristic, I have found in all the above-mentioned individuals, is their attitude towards facing problems. It is not that they don’t worry about problems, or don’t get stressed about it? They are humans, so they do go through all such emotions. But what distinguishes them from us is the fact that they also have the will power to accept the problems and challenges, as these come in their life, and find ways to deal with them too.

Approaching a problem in a logical and positive way is difficult if the situation is entangled with emotional issues. But treating each problem as an opportunity to improve skills, grow and evolve is what can be termed as the winning formula that gives you the strength to change your life."

But how to reach the moment when you actually are able to create a load of positive thoughts in your head and heart??

I feel really desperate....

Cognitive Behaviour therapy can help. It's talk therapy and re trains the brain. Though patterns that are negative and repetitive CAN be reversed and be positive. It takes work though. A learned behaviour, becomes a habit.. A habit can be changed!

Have you ever read the book The Power of Now? By Eckhart Tolle. If not, go buy it!

Yes. I will echo what WWIU has said about CBT. Now it's something you may need to do daily for a long while, until you can change your thinking patterns. You know the saying "You are what you eat?" Well that's just as true as "You are what you think". Hang in there.. and think positive.. over ruling the negatives should be your goal.:)

If your really depressed it may take more then just positive thinking to help you.

Sometimes the help of either natural or prescribed medication can be very helpful if there physiological reasons that is contributing to your depression. They can give you a jump start that make the therapy much more effective.

yeah, thank for your answers. CBT? I have never heard about it... sound good. I spent a weekend with my sister and it also helped me a lot. it didn`t solve my problems though... :( i made some research. i wanted to find some good therapists in New Jersey. Have you ever heard about Dr Janet Crain?

I bought her workbook on Amazon "If you want an egg roll, get out of the pizzeria". her methods and techniques seem to be amazingly effective. Do I have anything to lose?? I think that i will try it out!

MS another really help thing you can do is exercise. Try to get out a least once a day for something like a hard walk or jog for at least 30 min, the positive chemicals it releases goes along way, plus you will be happier about yourself physically.
