Do you need put you life in order? I feel that I do. But how to do it?

I believe that everybody had or has got right now the time in the life when feels that his/her life is in a big mess. How to organize it?? How to put the life in order again and be back on track??

 

Recently I have read a really nice book- "If you want an egg roll get out of the pizerria" by Dr Janet Crain. I gives some ideas and steps which can help with that:

 

1. Allow yourself to dream and plan

 

2. Write down your ideas

 

3. Include soul nourishing needs high on your list

 

4. Be clear and specific

 

5. Update your list regularly.

 

6. Make your list reflect your authentic self

 

7. Reward yourself.

 

 

She gives some real life examples and tries to convince that when you start with the small steps like this your life starts gaining colors again and pretty soon u will have a feeling that everything is in order again. I loved this book. It`s like a personal workbook actually...

 

But what do you think about it? It is a good method? What are your experiences?? Do you know any other books dealing with the same issue??

The one big thing - realize that no matter how bad things get, you are responsible for your own happiness - you hold your happiness 100% in your hands...what are you going to do with it? The rest of your life starts today. I know...cheesy :laugh: but it works for me!

 

Help it along by a good diet, good exercise (the chemical responses on your body are profound), only surrounding yourself with positive people with your best interests at heart, and making tiny changes everywhere you see. People think the tiny things arent important but they are, especially when you're down. For example, when I was very low, many yrs ago, I was struggling...I did tiny things like only letting myself buy colorful clothes, not black ones, holding my head up and making eye contact with people as I walked around (not looking down at the pavement), so many things like that.

 

Over time it really helped. I'll never forget how down I was, and how bad life was back then, and I've never stopped doing all of those little things (even now things are really great) and its added to my life 1000%. In fact I am annoyingl upbeat most of the time now :D

thanks a lot for your answer! I love your attitude to live and the problems which we as human beings have to face...

 

Btw do you know any workbooks on self-improvement... In particular I would be interested in some literature explaining how to effectively deal with emotional pain, how to recover from it and find the happy life again...

 

I know that as you wrote... all of those things depend on us but sometimes the guidelines coming from "the outside" can help a lot.

In my opinion it sometimes helps to open our eyes and see the life from other perspective.

I personally love the teaching and books of OSHO...it`s really spiritual though... do you know any books or blogs which are more pragmatic and present some raw techniques which can help when you are really down?

Well, believe it or not, there's an awful lot to be said for Dr Phil's Life strategies!

 

Also, (and I'm not proselytising, ok?) The Art of Happiness is a pretty amazing book.

 

But you need to grab a really big piece of paper, and Mind map. Get the biggest you can find, even if it means buying a roll of wallpaper, and cutting three equal-length strips and sticking them together, lengthways..

 

Use the reverse side.

Now, draw a circle in the middle and write in it: "My Life".

 

Then, 'spider off' in different directions... one direction is 'job'..then that will have other legs spidering off it... another spider leg will lead to 'family' and anything associated with changing or improving that... then another leg, with 'relationships'..and spider off from that...one titled 'home' (get it Feng Shui-ed)

it pays to put everything down on this big sheet, and stick it on your wall in your bedroom, and use it to chart progress....

But as Torrance said - you cup your own happiness in your hands....

Cradle it loosely, and nurture it.

I suggest a slightly simpler start. Focus on yourself do that by start with exercise program, then committee to start eating regularly with good healthy food you make yourself, then take a class or hobbies you always wanted to do, have consistent plan to spend time with those who care ab about you. If you keep busy doing those things then all of the other things you value finds there place in your life.

 

As for book try "Journey from Abandonment to Healing" while it may not speak 100% to you it does have some very helpful exercises that will help focusing you on your own life.

I suggest you start by taking risks .. big ones. Seek not to put your life in order but go for ALL the the things in life that you were afraid of or never thought you could attain. You only get one go around in this life, so go for it. I think internal peace comes from conquering your fears and risking everything. Thats the the human equation for what we all want: Happiness and knowing we have all done the best we can.

I cannot express enough how much a gratitude list has aided in retaining a positive outlook. It reflects back to you somehow. I've yet to figure out the mystery of it, yet I have found that when challenges are abound, all I need do is recall the stregthening moments that got me to that challenge and then I know with a Thankfull heart that the answer or action is there to grasp.

Each day becomes a challenging blessing waiting to be achieved. Think about it and apply it for long term results. Its those small things that create mountains of goodness.
