Lovelybird Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I am wondering if you decide to go to a Marriage Counselor, would you prefer male counselor or female counselor? and why? How much do they charge you per hour?
D-Lish Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I prefer female therapists- they have empathy that most males therapists I have seen don't seem to possess. I don't pay for therapy- it's covered by health care- but a private session could cost anywhere up to $150 per hour.
Woggle Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Neither. I don't trust therapists and even the male ones tend to be biased in favor of the woman. Marriage counseling is pretty much where man shells out to get told that everything is his fault.
Author Lovelybird Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 D-lish, thank you for your answer, I didn't know a counselor would charge $ 150 per hour! the information I got from somewhere maybe is wrong, it says $ 20 per hour, which is a surprise to me, I would think a therapist would charge much more than $ 20 per hour. Woggle, I believe a good therapist should not show bias to any side, and have very good understanding about both men and women. So, another question, what kind of therapist do you consider a good one? the degree? the repute? or try first, then decide? How do you decide to choose one for you?
angie2443 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 If a couple feels more confortable with a woman, they should choose a woman. If they feel more confortable with a man, they should choose a man. They should also choose a counselor who is trained in MC. Many counselors who will see married couples, are not trained in MC. You have to be carefull.
Author Lovelybird Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 (edited) I always choose the one who tells me what I want to hear. then you don't really want to get well, or such a therapist really doesn't hold ethics of the job As for me, I think I don't want a therapist beating down on me about all my weaknesses and leaving me despair, but also same time, I want this therapist has enough deep insight about where are wrong, and help me to grow in those areas, not a easy job If a couple feels more confortable with a woman, they should choose a woman. If they feel more confortable with a man, they should choose a man. They should also choose a counselor who is trained in MC. Many counselors who will see married couples, are not trained in MC. You have to be carefull. Thanks, angie Edited February 3, 2010 by Lovelybird
Woggle Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I have never been to marriage counseling but I went to regular counseling and I just don't have good experience with therapists.
Author Lovelybird Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 I have never been to marriage counseling but I went to regular counseling and I just don't have good experience with therapists. Why is that? They could not offer effective help? or you never trusted them?
alphamale Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I am wondering if you decide to go to a Marriage Counselor, would you prefer male counselor or female counselor? and why? How much do they charge you per hour? i think a trans-gender therapist would provide an interesting POV
Woggle Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Why is that? They could not offer effective help? or you never trusted them? They get paid to act like they care plus most of the time they are more screwed up than their patients.
Author Lovelybird Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 Haha, Alpha, if they are trans-gender, then probably they have much to deal with their own issues than mine They get paid to act like they care plus most of the time they are more screwed up than their patients. How do you know they are more screwed up? They do care I think, otherwise why do they choose to be a therapist? not easy to get the license, not a easy job all they have to is to listen to people's problems, then feel them out, then provide solutions. I think they will experience the depression or mental low of their patient, isn't it so?
Gabriele Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 In Canada...... I pay a registered clinical counselor $115.50/hr. I did see a psychologist (PHD) $200/hr and the cost was the same for IC or MC. I think male or female it is just a comfort thing.... you have to trust/respect them. And you will only know that after trying it out. Referral is a source, for starters.
