I just got off the phone with my boyfriend, the one who is moving next week. He's under a lot of stress. Part of the complication of his moving is him working for his dad, and their relationship has become very strained because the reason the bf is moving is because his dad's company is failing because of the economy...

Anyway, he was telling me about his day and how hard it was: packing, fighting with his dad, feeling anxious about our relationship, etc. He sounded so upset and my heart just hurt for him. After he finished talking, I almost said "i love you," but I caught myself and when I paused he said, "Are you going to say something?" And I composed myself and replied: "I just wish there was something I could for you."

It totally caught me off guard! I've never come even close to saying it, or even thinking I WAS in love with him. Could this possibly mean that I am in love with him? I don't feel infatuated with him nor do I feel giddy. I just feel...at ease and happy.

Yikes. And for the record, I've never said ILY to any guy before.

I guess my only question -- is it love or a sort of sympathy? I ask only because it seemed to be the sort of "love" you'd say to a cute puppy under duress (logically speaking).

(I don't know if your post is a question or just a declarative story, but it is my question back to you nonetheless XD )

Maybe you were going to say it to see if you could change the outcome of the move etc etc..

In other words.. If I tell you that I love you, will you stay ?..

But...

You do know yourself better than any of us..

Are there any motivating factors in why you would choose now to say it ?

If not then I'd say that yes.. you do love him..

No, I definitely wasn't going to say it to change the outcome of it, that's for sure.

It just hurt me so much to hear him in pain, and I felt an overwhelming feeling of care and love for him.

yeh, you were just being nice and wanted to say something to change his state of mind. It sure would have! But probably better that you didn't ;)
