My boyfriend and I have several conferences to attend, most out of our state so we talked it over and decided to go a few days earlier to check out the local areas. So there will be flights to be booked, transportation pick-ups, hotel room to be booked and some activities.

We plan to spend some time on Phi Phi Island in April. Every time we talk about a vacation, he would put me in charge of the planning, booking and everything else.

I talked to some of my girlfriends and their boyfriends do the same. Why is that? Why can't the guys do the bookings and planning? It's not a big deal but it makes me wonder, could it be cause the guy pays for everything or that he trusts his partner to have better taste in hotel, places to visit ....

Whenever you and your partner want to go on a holiday, who plans it? Who books the hotel room, plane tickets and plans the itinerary [if there is a need for it]?

This is for anyone that has a partner. Be it gay or married, or divorced ... tell me your stories!

Ummmm. I don't think there are any hard and fast rules about this. Usually the person doing the most work in the relationship is the one who's less attractive. Maybe that answers your question?

I can safely say that more often than not, I, as the woman, end up with most of the vacation planning. This applies to boyfriends, the exH, and the male friend I traveled with for a couple of weeks.

I think it's b/c I trust my organizational skills more than theirs.

This is my reason. The GF usually wants to pick the hotel location and room, the plane tickets for some reason, one experience is that no matter what, I'll get yelled at for something stupid like why did I picked an 8am flight instead of the 815am flight. Oh she wakes up early anyway.:rolleyes:

Even when I pick something she'll hate it or make a suggestion hence, let her do the picking. If I'm going to get yelled at, might as well let her make the decision so I get yelled at less.

Haha me and my gf ocasionally have this debate. Usually when it comes to plans we both kind of do a part in it, it really depends on what the situation is. If its a vacation or event I want to go to, id kinda do more of the work and vise versa. Other things such as "where we're going to eat" is usually up to me for some reason and"what movie or show we're going to watch" is usually up to her lol idk why or how it works out this way.

Any time my g/f tells me, "Be a man and do [whatever]," I say, "Yeah well be a woman and iron my underwear." That usually makes her annoyed.

Ah interesting... BF and all Ex-BFs have taken care of the planning...

I would stop and wonder if that's a comment on my planning skills, but I really hate all that stuff so I would rather let BF continue to do it.

Strange but true. Never thought about it but yes, I've primarily done the planning and booking, in my marriages.

Not if you look anything like your avatar you haven't.

Travel arrangements involve making sure everything is comfortable and just right. That's what women do. Similar to picking out the furniture and miscellaneous decorations around the house. If you leave it to the guy, you won't like what you get.

Maybe it is the organizational skills or that we do have better taste!

I don't mind doing it but sometimes, it would be nice for him to surprise me with his planning ... although just the thought of it ... is making me slightly uncomfortable! :p

He tends to forget things like bottled water, jacket and necessary things to take with him whenever he goes on a trip with his friends so he depends on me to remind him about those things

Along with what jerbear said, I don't enjoy "nose-upturning" episodes.

"Oh, we are staying... there... well, I guess the cuter hotels were all booked... no it's ok... they do have running water, right?"

"Did you even check for a cheaper fare on www.cheapww1biplanetix.com? no?... well ok, then, let me go and pick another bushel of MONEY from the MONEY TREE you have out back before we leave."

"You didn't get a reservation at Chez Crustacean? Well of course eating at 11:00 PM is fine with me, had I been asked. Oh you -assumed- well let me tell you something about -assuming- things..."

"Honey, I'm sunburned! the sun on this beach is too HOT, why couldn't you have gotten a hotel on the COOL beach?"

"I am not sleeping in that bed. Did you -specifically- ask for the fraternity suite? Maybe we should just call up some hookers and have a stag party, looks like there was one here earlier today."

"Your actually going to tip for that drink? Where did you find this place, a matchbook cover?"

;)

That's nice.

What we do is .. I surf on something I like, choose the flights; copy the link and paste it to him. His answer is always the same "Baby, anything you want. Wherever you like to stay is fine me" and he gives me the kissing YM emoticon :love: He is so adorable!

Believe me, you're much better off doing the planning youself. It's similar to a wedding. Ever heard of a guy planning a wedding? What a disaster! Women just do that kind of thing better than a man. I guess it's just human nature

In all fairness, that was an amalgam of my dear mother, a particular aunt, and an ex-ex. No individual female is that bad.

That's funny since I do most of the planning and booking hotels when we go away. I am very good at getting good things for cheap prices so my wife leaves that stuff to me.

My brother does the same but when it comes to packing, he leaves it to his wife. She is REALLY good at it.

My sister does the planning and booking, and of course the packing which is horrible at. Her husband does all the paying.

I'm really particular about where we stay, so it makes sense that I do that kind of thing. Don't really care about the flights, since flying sucks not due to fear but boredom of hurry up and wait. I hate all the waiting and then all the sitting and then whatever else they make us hurry up and wait for.

Serious answer, if they agree to leave all the computer, electronic equipment (including appliances and cellphones), outdoors activity planning, and automobile decisions to me, they can have the hotels, restaurant reservations, party and dinner planning and flights.

Above all this is to be avoided:

"But the salesman said I didn't need more than 1GB of ram because Vista uses swap files!"

Umm... not exactly sure what you mean by that. My theory is: the more attractive one party is than the other in a relationship, the less work that party does in comparison with the less-attractive partner. Making travel arrangements is boring and even stressful sometimes. It's "work" as far as I'm concerned. Therefore, if my theory is right, the less attractive party would be taking care of it.

Type A personality! :p I hate waiting too but there isn't any other way for us to get to where we want to go. We can drive but lately, I hate driving more than 30 minutes! Even movies with a slow start gets to me.

If we plan to drive to Phi Phi Island, it will take 8 hours!

Yea most women are in charge of the rest of it and men take the electronic equipment et al with them.

Any complains thought after the holiday on during? From guys, of course. Women tend to a complain more than men when it comes to vacations ~ my experience on holidays with family [my aunts, my mother and grandmother ] and with friends ~ omg, some were very b*tchy :lmao:
