When listening to a female friend complain, whine, rant, cry about current love interest:

 

 

Wonders to himself, "Why is she wasting time with him when she can be with a nice guy like me? I just don't get it, why do women always go for the bad boys and then wonder why they don't treat them right."

 

 

Wonders out loud, "Why are you wasting time with him when you could be with me? I don't get it. I wouldn't put up with that."

I was a doormat, but then I realized that doormat and nice weren't mutually inclusive. It takes a mental change, but I am breaking away from the doormat. One of my favourite phrases now is "don't you have girlfriends for this?"
