Devil Inside Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 So I think it is time for this old dog to finally get fixed. I am thinking of having the big V and wanted to hear what other people experienced in this process. Also, what should I prepare for the aftermath. I am hoping to do it soon, specifically in March so I can have an excuse to sit on the couch and watch basketball...and ask other people to bring me a beer .
JamesM Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Incredibly not a big deal at all. The thought is far worse than the actual surgery. I had it done more than five years ago. I was "cut" on a Friday and back to work on Monday. I was given a prescription for painkillers and never used them. Mine was a no scalpel surgery. The doctor used a local anesthetic, made two small cuts (I think), tied or cut me, and was finished. I walked out after about a half hour. I had no swelling and very little pain. I was instructed not to lift much for awhile. Really not much else to say. Simple procedure for me.

I have heard this same thing from most of my friend's that have had the procedure as well.
xpaperxcutx Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Just a q, do you not want to have children?
Eve Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I have heard that the male orgasm can alter afterwards though. Has anyone found this to be true? This is the only reason why my Hubby doesnt want to do it. Take care, Eve xx
sunshinegirl Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Both of my brothers-in-law have had a vasectomy (they've been vasectomized?). BIL #1 got an infection of some kind afterwards, and was in a lot of discomfort for a week or two. All good now, though. BIL #2 didn't make sure he was shooting blanks afterwards and got his wife, my sis, pregnant with twins. Yes, AFTER the procedure. The twins are adorable, though...
reservoirdog1 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Wish I'd seen this thread a bit sooner! I got the big V in 2001. Opted for the no-scalpel variety. What that meant was that, instead of an incision, the surgeon used a stainless steel pointed rod and poked a hole. Drew each tube through the hole, snipped, cauterized, tucked it back in. No stitches needed. Had to stay off my feet for the rest of the day, take it easy for the next couple of days, and no ejac for a week. Two tests at a month and three months confirmed I was shooting blanks. No complications at all, except for a bit of swelling that Ibuprofen took care of. Totally easy -- very glad I did it. What was kind of cool was the "orientation" session -- watching a 20-minute video featuring a group of guys sitting and asking questions about the procedure. When the video was over, a message appeared on the screen: "In the time it took you to watch this video, you could have had the surgery." Very true. Hope it goes/went well for you.
