Only certain member on this site are allowed to have any fun. The rest are reported by assorted creepy individuals who tail us and consistently report us for off-topic posts, nvm reporting us on rule violations, after they bait us. ;)

I only have 2 infractions so far.

I don't get it... if people don't like the way this forum is run or don't agree with the rules etc... they are free to leave .. there are plenty of other forums on the net that might suit them better..

We aren't going to tolerate any more of these boring, unproductive threads that do nothing but insult and inflame. I will say without reservation that ANY HUMAN BEING, no matter how aesthetically challenged they may be or how lacking in intelligence or personality, can find a suitable person to date or marry. That's just the way the world is set up.

We don't need threads that comment on people's looks and we don't need threads that put down average people...because most of us are average. The most beautiful woman alive may be just average looking to some. The most ugly male may be wonderful looking to some women.

I always looked at Marilyn Monroe and wondered why anybody would have found her attractive. I am told that she was considered very beautiful. Personally, I wouldn't have given her a second look even if she offered to sell me a bar of World's Finest Chocolate at half price.

NO MORE OF THESE CRAZY THREADS!!! THEY SERVE NO PURPOSE AND WILL BE DELETED!!!

If you can put something up that is intelligent and that helps people in some way...then those will remain up.

Many thanks!

Hallelujah! It's times like these I wish there was a "Thank You" button on the forum. Although I actually like the "Rate Me" threads & seeing how other members of the forum look. Always makes me feel better about my self :lmao:

I got two also, and haven't ever pressed the "alert us" button on this or any other forum, and can say fairly definitely that I would never do so. "Sticks and stones..." as the saying goes.

Am also fairly sure that my posts have been reported as recently as say... today!

The internet is the last bastion of free expression, let's keep it that way within reason.

Straight up, I've never reported you, even though you've personally attacked me numerous times, for no reason at all. But the next time you do, in the interests of fairplay, I will report you. If I had reported you for all the personal attacks, not just on me, but other female and male members, you would be consistently in lockdown.

You guys dont even want to know how many infractions I have

In your world, an "attack" is any statement that doesn't agree with you or calls you out on the tone of your posts, which is ALL I've ever done where you or anyone else here is concerned. OTOH, you have frequently issued personal insults to posters reaching way past the limits of whatever they posted. But it's your privilege to do so, right? I get it... all too well.

But rationalize reporting me however you like going forward, fine with me.

Don't Censor Me!

Seriously, are unproductive and boring going to be standards to regulate this forum? You'd have to quit your day job and start hiring a staff of 50 poor souls.

The internet should not be regulated.

I think the earlier suggestion of a very own 'rate me' section is a good idea. Then all those into rating others or being rated have somewhere to do it within this site if they so wish. All that needs is some helpful comment saying that it is at your own risk to post your photo and ask for comments as some of the comments might be subjective and hurtful to your ego.

It's not about having a section for the 'rate-me' threads.. it's about how degenerative those threads are.. they get nasty real quick.. that is the problem.. I don't blame the mods.. they have enough on their plates as it is..

If you want to know how you look like.. ask someone you really trust.. or a complete stranger IRL... or your mother..

Isn't there already a whole internet forum called "Hot or Not" where that's exactly what you're supposed to do? Why not post your pics there if you want strangers rating your looks? If you're into rating others, go there and do it all day long if you want.

Why re-create that on this relationship advice site?

I agree! Everybody has a different taste.

Also I think that people should not consider other people's opinion to decide on whether they look good or not. The key is to accept yourself without the reassurance of others.

I used to find myself ugly and didn't dare to wear what I wanted. I changed the way I looked at myself and created my own style. I accepted that there is always people out there who will find you attractive and people who won't find you attractive.

Now I am very confident and feel happy in my own skin. As a little bonus I get a lot of compliments on my looks and on my clothes.

In my opinion it's all about your attitude.

I thought they were dumb threads too. I'm willing to give my honest opinion, but I am no authority. Being attractive or unattractive to me only means you're attractive or unattractive to me - not the whole world. So what are those threads suppose to accomplish?

YOU!

Holy crap! And you're polite too......

because most of us are average.

I'd rate you a 9 Tony

A 10 if you could promise me no more infractions..hahaha

I think in the end the rate me threads hurt more feelings than they preserve..

I've seen some of those threads in the past go to the point that the thread was really all insults and potshots where people were just making themselves feel better to call someone a 4 even though they weren't.

Yeah.. the nice guy, bad girl threads could never be posted again and I'd be fine with that..

LS's search is pretty good and most of those type of threads have already been asked and answered

Did TBF remove her signature and avatar so that we can't tell when she is being suspended

Personally, I have never used "alert us" button. If I am going to stab you, I will stab you in the front...

On a side note, Tony taking charge like this really turns me on ;)

We're not talking about George Orwell being told "we can't publish this in cased it offends the Soviets". If it's a simple case of "we want this site to be interesting and readable, and your post isn't" then that isn't censorship. It's quality control that site administrators are entitled to apply in a commercial site.

If it's not interesting to anybody other than a small clique of people who have formed online relationships or are involved in some kind of board-related drama with the poster in question, then it's not of much value to the site...nor to any lurkers contemplating whether this is somewhere they want to start posting on.

Admittedly the social stuff that goes on in the watercooler might be appealing to people who are very isolated, don't have anyone with whom they can discuss the minutiae of their day and want to feel like part of some kind of social scene. On a site like this (often frequented by people who are feeling lonely in the aftermath of a break up) that's probably very valuable...but it becomes a problem when that social aspect intrudes on other parts of the board where people are attempting to have discussions.

Plus, if the majority of active posters are focusing on the watercooler and things like "rate me" threads or Whiner's 1001st thread about the state of women today, then it means that other threads (ones that might deal with some fresh subject matter) get bumped down to the bottom of the section pretty fast.

I do agree with you, though, that it would be hard to moderate a board to the level where people are putting a bit of thought and effort into their posts. There was a (now defunct) message board which had an enormous readership and had a consistently high standard of funny, insightful, interesting posts. It was moderated very heavily to keep the posting standard high...but I think getting that number of moderators would be a problem for most boards.
