betamanlet Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Cats actually need you to love them back and treat them well! My cats apparently are unaware of them being cats. They act like dogs and follow me around. My younger one, the one in my avatar, howls like a wolf if he thinks I'm gone.
Woggle Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 My cat is very loyal as well but then again he is a male cat.
betamanlet Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 My cat is very loyal as well but then again he is a male cat. Both mine are male. I hope they don't go gay on me
carhill Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Perhaps the OP can look to male cats for examples of perspective. This is instructive. I contributed to society by saving that one from a needle. No women were impressed by that act of kindness. Thanks.
meerkat stew Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 The man you have decided to become is for you not for any woman. Your motivations for becoming the man you have become should have absolutely nothing to do with dating, relationships, etc. Allowing your self image to be tied in the way women treat you is counterproductive to the things you are doing to make you the man that you are. Let it go. Be the man you want to be. Well stated, great advice for anyone.
Woggle Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 My cat has gotten out on a few occasions and came home very content. I have a little player as a pet.

betamanlet Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 How do you treat your cats? Do you treat them well, pampering and loving them? they're quite spoiled, the figured out a brilliant way for me to feed tehm whenver they want to be fed, by scratching the carpet.... heeks is right here sitting on my computer desk with me, demanding i pet him.

Reward good behaviour and punish/ignore bad behaviour. But...beyond that, pampering and spoiling a loved one, is the way to handle them. Set your boundaries for good and bad behaviour. Lavish love and affection and you've got the secret to many women, albeit not all women.

If I stop them, they just do it again.
betamanlet Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Unlike women cats and dogs appreciate being treated well. Actually I remember on some talk show back when I was a college freshman in 1993, they had this guy saying "women are like dogs, the more you beat them, the more they love you" One of those Springer type shows.

When you think about it maybe women are like dogs and men are like cats.
stillafool Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 In my opinion, I have done my part to contribute to the greater good of society. I have chosen to respect my peers and elders and make something of my life. Instead of resorting to a life of crime and general disrespect for society, I went to college to become a professional on the work force and become a law abiding tax paying citizen, which these days is somewhat of a rarity. I donate to church very regularly (even though I don't actually attend church as I am not religious), have voulteneered in my community as a big brother (havent had the time to do this in quite awhile I admit), and have helped serve food during thanksgiving the past 2 years. I care about my fellow citizens and don't like people go hungry. All and all I think I'm a great citizen for my community and society at large. I have everything going in my life as far as my career and spiritual fulfillment (I feel really good that I contribute to society). The only thing I have missing in my life is personalty relationships with the opposite sex. So when I go seek this, how does society (women) reward me? By discarding me like I'm a piece of trash. Yes, with all that I am, women act like I'm some kind of defective disease to be avoided at all cost as soon as I show more interest than just being an acquaintance or friend. With all I have invested in society, I get absolutely no personal fulfillment of a VERY basic human need, companionship. I already know what you women are going to say. Life isn't fair, women don't owe me anything, you have problems, etc etc. Well guess what? I 100% agree with you, you're right. Yes, I said it, you're right. No women don't owe me a damn thing, and women have every right to treat me as trash. But guess what? I have every right to stop investing in a society that treats me like trash. I have the right to no longer act like a decent human being. I really have no incentive to do so. There will be consequences of this. C'mon, are you saying NO women are interested in going out with you?
Jaytb Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Unlike women cats and dogs appreciate being treated well. nice attitude you got there. Well my cat is awful, you can rub her belly one minute and she'll purr loudly then the next she'll bite and scratch the crap out of you. She is a psycho kitty.
You'reasian Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Unlike women cats and dogs appreciate being treated well. Women are human beings, like us. They are attracted to certain things on the spot - well built physiques, resources, good sex etc. These are the things that drive them our direction - the qualities that you posess and their mindset to appreciate them - will keep them. If they don't value certain qualities, they don't value them. In that case you're probably incompatible.

If I stop them, they just do it again. Is your bathroom carpeted? If not, just lock them in the bathroom for the night, until you can break this bad habit. My old cat used to play with the coil-spring door stop, when he wanted me to get up in the morning. *twang* pause *twang* I was ready to kill him AND laugh out loud, at the same time, but kept ignoring him, pretending to sleep. He eventually stopped doing it, when he didn't get what he wanted, through bad behaviour. Just don't enable bad behaviour. Otherwise, just like people, cats have no incentive to change their behaviour.

Are your contributions because of altruism, or because you expect something out of it? Do you expect women to fall in love with you based on your altruism? I guess the real question is, do you volunteer because you want to help other people or do you want it to benefit yourself in some way?

The way he's communicated this is that he expects something in return, which is not altruism. Giving or doing good for its own sake is. And when you can do these deeds discretely, even better...

I used to not feed them that early, their old strategy was to attack my feel while I was sleeping. I would withstand the attacks until I was ready to get out of bed, but that's when they started scratching the carpet to get me out of bed..
cognac Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 I consider myself to be altruistic, I do a lot of good things without expecting anything in return I would say. However, in defense of the OP's sentiment, I do get kind of frustrated when I show other people kindness and they do not return it when I am in need. This is natural. I find my worst experiences in this regard have been with women to be honest. Not saying kind women don't exist of course, but they are usually a lot older. I am not altruistic because I am mother theresa or am such a great person, I am altruistic because I believe that is the way society should function. I would like to live a place where I know someone's got my back and I've got theirs. If my neighbor needs something to eat, he can come to me, if I find myself in the reverse situation, I would expect the same treatment. Unfortunately modern American/Western capitalist society treats altruism as the exception or even something to be despised, being drowned by a sea of semi-sociopathic, functionless bovines devoid of humanity. My belief is that altruism and treating other people with kindness is in the interest of both the community AND the individual. I find that yes the OP's post makes it sound like he is a phoney altruist who does it to look good, but then again, I can understand the frustration of being a good catch (for reasons such as the OP mentioned) as a man and not having any women who aren't in their 70's or extremely obese notice it. The ones who do notice always seem to have a boyfriend LOL. I remember recently a girl I know and am somewhat acquainted with (it's relatively platonic but I would date her given the chance) saw me at school and we hung out during our break for an hour. We did this every thursday for 3 months. I remember one day I showed her a very kind side of myself and I saw her look at me, she had this look in her eyes like she was deeply moved by me and could love me forever (atleast in my mind she did LOL). I think she was surprised because I have a very manly and dominant exterior, which is why I am the perfect man (masculine and confident on the outside, but not the American definition of masculinity which confuses confidence for being a narcissistic and egotistical jerkoff) But of course...she has a boyfriend, tall, better looking, david beckham body athlete. I saw her for the last time on the last day of college classes (probably still see her around eventually) and she was quite sad to leave me go, I gave her my phone number and tried calling her once but she didn't pick up and didn't call back. Conclusion? Maybe 10 years from now she will look back and say "why didn't I call that perfect guy, he wasn't 6 feet tall but he was everything I could ever want in a man outside of that". She will be kicking herself for staying with the "hotter" guy who is probably a piece of crap and will not be in the picture, but hey, women got to learn by themselves. Imagine if I passed up the perfect girl because she had B's instead of D's? How moronic would that be ? If women want to do the equivalant of that, well that's just a true shame. It's why the women of my generation will seldom if ever find true love, love and desire will always triumph over lust and "chemistry".

DiscoChick Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 I feel ya, OpenGL. Well, not really. I try to be nice and treat everyone fairly. I know that there are good people out there like me, and there are bad. I don't get angry anymore when people treat me wrong I have treated them fairly. It's all a part of life. I don't expect things from anyone but my mother and God. They love me the way I am, and I try to make them happy. I always say I prefer this and that, but I would seriously like a guy remotely similar to me on some level. Is he able to put his heart into something helpful and not expect something in return? Can he give twenty dollars to the needy kids in front of WalMart and not talk about it in the car? I like men that are humble, smart, and helpful. I think you should work harder at your confidence and not settle for less. I'm sure there's a woman out there for you. *hugs* Sorry, I like hugs.
