I want to get married to this man, but he keeps skirting away from the whole marriage issue. First it was that he wanted to wait until after his grandma died because she hates me. (she was like his acting mom) Then he said he wanted to get rid of our collective debts because he had terrible credit and so did I. Debt taken care of, but now he is complaining that it's "just a piece of paper" and all I want is to trap him in a corner with this issue. I just want him to commit to me. I want the wedding. I want a public confirmation. What is it with him? We've been together for 5 years and have 2 kids. Everyone keeps asking us when it will finally happen, but the truth is I don't even know if it ever will. Is this worth it? Am I being pushy? Or reasonable? Is he being a major flake? Should I be worried about his faithfulness?

I'm not trying to force him or corner him, because he made an announcement over a year ago to both our families that we were engaged. All it took was discord in my sister's marriage for him to change his mind. My sister ended up cheating on her husband, they almost divorced. This became fodder to stay just "live-in partners" but I can't help but feel like he's keeping options open and his future does not include me.
