I know this is the wrong forum but I am not sure if you visit the wellness board but I have decided to get back into mean shape. I need to get rid of the old marriage spare tire and need your help. Do you have any ideas as far as good nutritional content (meal plans) and an entry level exercise program (maybe a pre boot camp routine) I can get into? Thanks,

Sorry, I'm not a Gunny.

 

But any of those Fitness Guides for the different military organizations (Navy SEALS, Marine Corps, Special Forces, etc.) will give you some good basic guidance on workout and nutrition programs that have that "pre-boot camp" approach."

Its not as complicated as they make it sound on TV?

 

Half if not more of your diet needs to consist ideally of fresh fruits and vegetables, if not fresh than frozen, and lastly canned.

 

The other half needs to consist mostly of carbs, (rice, pasta, potatoes ~ once to three times a week)

 

And you need some protein in your diet. You just don't need a whole lot.

 

Avoid sweets like cakes, pies, pastries, sweets, and snacks, soda, and the like, (mixed nuts, corn nuts, sunflower seeds and such are OK)

 

PT, (Physical Training)?

 

Go by your local Marine Corps Recruiting Office and ask for them to give you the PT Guide for recruiting candidates. Its set up for those that are out of shape, out of condition. overweight and not ready physically to enlist. (They'll give you a copy if you ask~ if necessary ask for their business cards and tell them you'll send them some referrals)

 

Its based on a one year program if need be.

 

Don't approach it as though your 18 years old. Take it easy and slow.

 

Understand that its going to take you three to six months of getting out and doing it before you feel like doing it five times a week. That is to say your going to have to force yourself out there each for five days a week for three to six months before you feel like doing it.

 

Eventually? You won't feel right not doing it!

 

The Marine Corps PT program is set up that you can do it with a minimum of equipment and clothing (once that they've got you've in top physical condition ala Boot camp or OCS ~ Officer Candidate School)

 

That is to say its a "maintenance program"

 

It consists of

 

Stretching Exercise

 

Daily Seven (Four count calensticitics X 7/8/9/10)

 

A run of three to six miles

 

Cool Down exercise

 

More stretching exercise

Thanks guys. Wow all the other diets say stay away from carbs etc. They have a Marine recruiting office right next door to me so I'll give it a go. The hardest thing while jogging is to catch that "second wind" especially when you have asthma but I did it when I was in my early20's (now 34 and can feel it more lol).

Let me jump in here. I'm an ex Military guy and agree w Gunny. You basically need to do at least 30 min of cardio 3x a week.

 

A gym membership is great,but if you cant afford it or don't have the time, I would recommend push ups,pull ups and crunches or sit ups. As far as diet, I'm a big protein fan. 4 eggs and oatmeal for breakfast. Chicken or a tuna sandwich for lunch. Pasta for dinner. Good luck.

Then walk ~ don't jog or run. You've got to build up your tolerances and abilities. You can't go out the first day and expect to do the same thing as an eighteen year old that just graduated out Marine boot camp.

 

Then build up to walk/jog ~ walk some ~ jog some, then build up to jog/run.

 

Don't forget the calestintics, stretching exercises both before and after.

 

Your working a pyramid. In which in the beginning E=r that is to say that it required a great amount of effort which yields very little results. After you've done it for awhile (three to six months) the equation flips to e=R in which very little effort yields large results!

How about me Gunny? I am nursing and basically have NO time to myself to get any exercise in bc of my 4 month old and my 2 year old. The weight literally fell off after my first pregnancy and I really didn't have to do anything bc nursing burned all the extra weight off. This baby is different. I am extremely stressed and I am an emotional eater and on top of that I only have time to work out after the kids have gone to bed and by that time I AM BEAT! I'd love to lose 15-20 lbs and get the killer abs back that I had in high school. How can I get those abs back after 2 babies? This is kind of silly asking a man this but you seem to have the answers to so many other things, I thought you might to this as well. HELP ME PLEASE!!!
