Pizzaman81 Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 For some reason I was cast in some cheesy soap opera which is called my life. 3 years ago, my family introduced to me a family friend's daughter. We dated for maybe 6 months. Then I broke it off. "But Pizzaman! Why did you break it off?!" you may be wondering. I am what most people called paranoid. In a sense that I don't trust my own people from the mother land. Even though this time I was right. I suspected her of wanting to quickly get married obviously because she just came to this country and wanted a citizenship, green card, food coupon whatever this great country offers. So I broke it off. 2 years later, she married some dude. Over the weekend, I was at a family gather, and for some reason we were celebrating her marriage?! I was invited. I went to the celebration. Good times! Food was good, good laughs! Although she wasn't laughing as much or smiling and I felt that maybe my presence there made her feel uncomfortable. I went to the backyard to get something for my uncle, and she came out with me. She said in mandarin "I know what you are thinking!" I said back in English (because my mandarin sucks) "I hope you both are happy in the end!" She said back "I had no choice" Hmm?! So did yours truly: A) Decided not to do anything stupid and continued merrily drank alcohol and chatted with family members for the rest of the party B) Pulled the new husband aside and told him "Hey, there's something you should know" C) Made out with my ex in the backyard.
tami-chan Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 A) Decided not to do anything stupid and continued merrily drank alcohol and chatted with family members for the rest of the party B) Pulled the new husband aside and told him "Hey, there's something you should know" C) Made out with my ex in the backyard. You should have invited me! You would have really ruined her day...LOL:p;)...wait...she is an EX, so who cares? in that case....definitely choice A! Does it bother you that she got married? I mean, why is not doing "anything stupid" even have to be decided on?
meerkat stew Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Oh no, not C) There is a romantic comedy script in here somewhere.

meerkat stew Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Hey Stew! love the bright, silk hawaiian shirt....LOL!!!! Hi Tami! I'm down tonight had to skip a fun party due to work, so didn't even get to wear my 6" marijuana leaf necklace. So Pizzaman, what did you do? Enquiring Minds want to know! Does it bother you that she is the one who got away? or are you happy that she still favors you enough to take you aside? A very young woman I dated a couple years back called me before she got married (to a man her own age) to ask me what I thought about her getting married. It was a big ego stroke

Usually just the marijuna leaf, and you know after all this joking I'm actually going to get one, would be hilarious at parties (like the one still going on now grrrrrr), goes with cheap sunglasses well! and....you told her what? jesus, you guys, what's with the cliffhangers? I told her I'd be over in an hour to give her something to remember me by before her happy day. I did, and she still calls me late night sometimes to this day, sobbing into the phone. OHhhh! You wanted the truth? I told her that he was a very lucky man, and that I was envious, but that the 20 year age difference would have been problematic, so it was for the best. The lie is better, though, eh?

jerbear Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 I know what you mean about being paranoid part. I still don't understand why some want to come here when they have an easier life back home. Most of the stuff, politics, family, "money" are pretty much handed to them. Over here in the US, one has to work for it. I thought this was a thing from the 70's and 80's, apparently this is still going on. Tami: seriously, dial up? No wonder you CAN'T take any prisoners! :lmao:

meerkat stew Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 . haha.....my phone is also rotary...!!!! BTW, have you live in a third world country? Awww, can I send $30 per month to a charity and adopt you? Save the Tami Foundation?
tami-chan Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Awww, can I send $30 per month to a charity and adopt you? Save the Tami Foundation? LOL:lmao:! absolutely! The foundation will send you pictures and a personal letter from your "adoptee".
jerbear Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 . haha.....my phone is also rotary...!!!! BTW, have you live in a third world country? Parts of China is still a third world country! No TP and just use the hole in the ground, if your lucky. Running water nearby if your lucky. Even parts of HK sometimes feel like 2nd world. I still remember trying to figure out how to use the hole in the ground. I didn't know how to flush. :lmao: (yes I was the tourist) I remember chickens and goats outside the house and once sharing a train ride in true "steerage form." There were cows, chickens, pigs on the same train. The last time I visited, no more farms and the whole place has been developed. Most of China is really industrializing and has changed in the last 20-30 years.

Anyway, I am a little confused with what you posted earlier....you were kind of at a lost as to why anyone would leave an "easier" life...but then posted the above...How easy of a life that?
meerkat stew Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 I found Hong Kong very modern when I lived there in the 80s. There would be an occasional chicken on the transit train, but that's because the Cantonese seemed so zealous about eating fresh food and going to market daily. I miss the Tai Po market. It was so many years ago, but I miss things in Hong Kong more than I miss NYC. I was going to school at CUHK up in the New Territories. Beautiful country. Tami, you should expect your first shipment of rice and fish heads next month, you must refer to me as "papa-san" or alternatively, "The Great White Savior" going forward. I expect a picture and a grovelling thank you note with you dressed in the burlap sack that the rice comes in! Your new adopted name is Tami-kat stew.

Many of the ones I've met still have the old mentality. They think the US has all the good stuff, lots of money (US dollars and remittances), their jobs were appointed and they got an monthly paycheck if they did or didn't work. When then come to the US, that $500 USD, is not so impressive; they don't know that one has to work HARD to get ahead AND their old ways of doing things don't really apply in the US. Oh well, what can you do sometimes.

I've visited some homes there and it was interesting, reminded me of my childhood home. I remember living in an apt with 3 generations in the space of 700 sq feet. Not just the Cantonese, pretty much all Asians prefer fresh food. I remember my parents getting an LIVE chicken. They were like, what do I do with this.
