lastnight Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 So my ex broke up with me a few months ago just a few days before my birthday. Since then i've been in strict nc and am moving away this weekend. I still miss her every day but know this is for the best and how she has not been in contact since shows she was done long before the bomb dropped. I guess my solace has been music, what about everybody else? Songs that have really gotten me through: Skeleton Boy - Friendly Fires No Kind Words - The Maccabees Jay-z - The Blueprint Loads of Michael Jackson Songs that break me every time: Romeo and Juliet - Dire Straits Don't Think Twice - Bob Dylan What about you guys? lastnight x
blackbear_703 Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 (edited) Hey lastnight-- I agree with you; music is medicine for the soul as far as a break-up is concerned. I've listened to tons of it myself since my break-up a couple of months ago. A few songs I can recommend: *After The Rain - Nelson. Very empowering song and one I highly recommend. *Waterfall - Wendy and Lisa *I Can See Clearly Now - Johnny Nash. A beautiful song to listen to not just for break-ups, but for any bad life situation in general. *Dear Prudence - The Beatles. See above. *I Don't Wanna Know - Phil Collins (from the "No Jacket Required" album). This one is a good one regarding a female dumper begging her ex for a second chance and him maintaing NC and moving on. Some of the more angrier break-up songs: *We're Not Gonna Take It - Twisted Sister. A good one to listen to when the ex starts throwing breadcrumbs or otherwise treating you like dirt on her/his shoe! hahaha *I'm Not Your Stepping Stone - The Monkees *I Don't Care Anymore - Phil Collins. This one seems to make it to just about all the lists of break-up songs! *Unhappy Birthday - The Smiths. Only listen to this one if you absolutely despise your ex. Songs I would NOT recommend listening to during a break-up: *Throwing It All Away - Genesis. Same applies to their song "Hold On My Heart" and "One More Night" and "Against the Odds (Take a Look At Me Now)" by Phil Collins. If you want to cry non-stop and desperately run for the phone to call your ex, be sure to give any of these songs a listen. *When It's Love - Van Halen. More than one person I know, myself included, have had a hard time listening to this one...before, during, and after the break-up. *the "Broken" album by Nine Inch Nails. Do NOT listen to this one during a break-up...esp. if you took an emotional beating from the break-up. Seriously, you might end up doing something destructive. Somewhere in between: *It Must Have Been Love - Roxette. Hmmmm...this song can either get you crying or help you let go of the love you had. I guess it depends on the person. And I would like to say that I am in no way criticizing Phil Collins/Genesis or their music! I've listened to them many times since the '80s and they have covered a wide spectrum of emotions in their music, but those songs above are really painful to listen to during a break-up...or at least for me personally. Hersheys Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 I listen to Love Song by Sara Bareilles to make me feel good. Best to avoid sad songs when going through a breakup.
mistakesweremade Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Don't know if this is really suited to the topic. I listened to the song The Rat by The Walkmen, a lot.

0hpenelope Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Hm... It's been a while, but whenever I feel like I'm left out or I'm getting down on myself for still not making a conscious effort to be open to dating, I just listen to Lady GaGa's "Telephone." It's just that the song reminds me that I have things to do and I'm too busy getting my stuff together so I can be set for my future career. Also, it reminds me that at this point in life, even if I do find someone, I'll be a terrible girlfriend because I'm doing something all the darn time. ...And I'm totally using Loveshack to procrastinate. Where's my study playlist, hm? But for you lovely people, I recommend Ne-Yo's "Go On Girl." Please refer to these specific verses: Baby I'm feelin' no stress / I'm too fly to be depressed. Straight talk from Ne-Yo. The less stress on the past, the more focus for the future you'll have. Bump it up.
