When an elder man passed away when I was tending to him...his wife came up hugged me dearly and said...I am glad it was you that held his hand to pass on. She had gone home that evening and he passed on late that night....

Now to those who understand that dieing alone is truly a sad moment I was at least able to aide this gent. He had progressive cancer. SO to have his wife whom I so admired for her dignity and sheer demeanor to gesture a hug and speak such kind words just melted my heart in a good way. It meant so much to give this gent a wish to die in a peaceful manner with someone near.

When I was in the first year of law school, one of the moot court judges -- an experienced senior lawyer -- gave me written feedback on my presentation: "Excellent presentation. Forceful, articulate, logical. Good responses to questions. This student has excellent potential as counsel." Man, I was riding high on that one.

I did a lot of internet dating in the years following my divorce. On several first dates I heard a variant of this one: "wow, you're so much better looking than your photo!" Usually signalled the start of a really fun date.

Thought I'd throw this in.

Several decades ago, my dad was a construction executive. His secretary was leaving to move to another city with her husband, and was searching for a job in her new city-to-be. My dad wrote her a letter of recommendation, in which he said: "_____ is the most skillful and competent secretary I have ever worked with. I urge any prospective employer to do himself a favour and hire her before somebody else does."

Always thought that was kind of cool.

When a man I deeply respect told me to call him my Brother.

It may not sound like much, but it's huge in my world. Among bikers, a Brother is someone who will give you or do anything for you if you need it, no matter what. You need to borrow the bike? Fine, you've got it. You need money? Fine, you've got it. You need to get out of the country this very minute and you need a lift, even though it's three in the morning? Fine, I'm on my way.

Obviously, with such a commitment, it's a title that's not handed out freely. Given his reputation and history in the biker scene here, I know how seriously he takes it, and it really means a lot to me to be counted as a Brother of his.

Whenever I've been told I am a great mother - that's the BEST compliment I could ever receive - ever. I can't think of anything better than that.

My best non-physical compliment was from a history teacher in the final year of high school.

She was mine and everyone else's absolute favourite teacher, a real laugh, fun to be around and really laid back - her classes were the BEST.

She said that out of all the students she had had, I reminded her most of her when she was my age.

That was very lovely to hear! :)

After years of tension and creative differences, I finally asked my friend why he was so condescending when it came to collaborating on musical projects.

I was taken very aback when he informed me that he was jealous of how I made the electric guitar "sexy again." And that girls always seemed to be hanging around whenever I played as if I were so some of snake charmer. It was untrue and strange, but very flattering non-the-less. :X

That reminded me of my psych teacher in college. After my final exam he asked me what I wanted to do when I got out of college. I told him I wanted to be a child psychologist, and he told me that he was extremely happy to hear that and that I am a very, very smart woman and he had no doubt in his mind that I would be a great psychologist.

I found that to be extremely nice! And encouraging!

My best compliment was about 12 years ago when I took flying lessons. My F.I. told me that I am a natural and should think about being a professional pilot.

Coming from an EX military fighter pilot that flew the F-15 Strike Eagle, F-16 and F-4 Phantom along with a long career in the airlines, that was big... To hear that from a man of his stature...yes.... it was a big deal for me. Really felt awesome.

I soloed a Cessna 172 SkyHawk after 5 lessons.... Think I'm bragging?...well I am and damn proud of that.

Recently, I've received some compliments about becoming a great mother, after Bump is born. Those compliments meant a lot to me.

Last year, this guy that used to work for us (he had a short term contract) developed a crush on me. He started writing me romantic letters (well e-mails) telling me what he likes about me. I have never received so many compliments in my life, and they all sounded pretty authentic (and were to do with my personality rather than looks). Sadly, I wasn't attracted to him but I still re-read his letters when I feel low about myself.

My children told me many times their friends wished they had mothers like me.

And recently, my eldest daughter - who is pregnant with her first child - told me she wants to be as good a parent to her baby as I was to her.

And here's me thinking I'm not really maternal.......

When your own child tells you something like that, you know you got something right.....

My H compliments me all the time, and its always lovely. but today he sent me an email at work and it said this..

'Your great, I love being married to you. Your like the sun on a rainy day, You make me feel all warm'

that was especially nice, and he's not creeping, we didnt have an argument or anything, he's just lovely

I can't think of one in particular.. but the ones I remember the most.. are compliments by other women... (not lesbians)... about my 'figure' and the look on their face... I vividly remember 2 of those.. they are the best..

"You carry yourself very well".

He meant my posture, how I walked into a room..etc.

I've noticed so many negative threads on this board lately, that I thought I would try to change it up a bit. Time to feel good about yourself

What is the absolute best compliment you have ever received?

Kindest person they have ever met.....

The nicest compliments I've had have usually been on looking youthful. My mother's new neighbour thought I was her granddaughter, and a door-to-door canvasser recently asked me if I'm old enough to vote so he could give me a form (he definitely needs glasses cos I don't look that young), and then I was invited to join the under-21 drama group (I'm thirty) :)

Oh, and one year my class approached me at the end of term and told me I was the best teacher they had that year. One of them had made me a picture as a gift :) I was pretty new to teaching and it really made me happy. I still have the picture displayed in my living room :)

Two weeks ago I was walking through a store parking lot to get to the entrance, and this car full of 16-year-old boys stopped behind me. This one popped his head out and said,"You are a very beautiful young lady, and who ever is dating you is a very lucky man." Just the idea TEENAGERS said that amazes me.

What a great thread Ericka!

I would say the best compliment I've received is ... Terra, you really grab life by the balls and take risks no one else would dare to.

I thought this was really great, I really try and get the most out of life but this isn't always easy - I was nice to be recognized for the challenges that I take on

This one hairdresser I went to asked me how old I was. When I told her I was only 14 (at the time) she couldn't believe it, she said she thought I was at least in my 20's in college. She said I carry myself so maturely, she never would have guessed.

Now I'm 16 and many people still say that I'm very mature/different than most my age.

Just yesterday, someone gave me a compliment that meant a lot to me, since it came from someone I like, admire and respect. She said "you do what you believe is the right thing to do, even if people react against you for it".
