CaliGuy Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Of course I do! Anyone who says they don't is lying. But I don't rule him out based on his body. Ah but some women will rule a man IN based on his body. Because there are women like that, men will continue to "troll" the internet with topless photos of themselves in hopes of landing a willing female accomplice. :lmao::laugh:

sagetalk Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Why do they do it? Because it works. Most girls like a guy that has large shoulders/chest and ripped abs. These guys worked their butts off for them so they show them off. It's also an easy way to break away from the hoard of guys that aren't muscular.

This is true, but even by doing so and separating yourself from the pack, it appears you are looked down upon by women who want more than just a fling...since it reflects a negative personality trait...but at the same time, women love abs...quite a pickle us men find ourselves in...
CaliGuy Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Shirtless pics work better for guys in online dating: http://blog.okcupid.com/index.php/2010/01/20/the-4-big-myths-of-profile-pictures/ Most of their data is gathered from one dating site. That said, a trend became very apparent to me in the article. SEX SELLS! Yes, that's right folks, you heard that here first. A woman in her late 30s showing cleavage gets 1 less message per than an 18 year old showing cleavage? Guys with good abs are actually contacted first by women IF they have really good abs? Apparently the people who go on dating sites don't really pay attention to who they are trying to meet. They make most of their decisions on who they are going to contact based on photos and who makes them the horniest. Haha. This data does not surprise me at all.
gypsy_nicky Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Guys who have really nice above average bodies are generally the male version of vanity. A lot of guys I know who work out at the gym have no real practical strength from it (like you would from a body that you get while working farms or construction for example) and half of the time their muscles are full of water due to over use of creatine. Very few healthy weight guys go to the gym as "personal growth" , most of the time its to get more female attention, hence why at the gym you see the typical douche bag working out the same 1 or 2 muscles that women can see through a tight t shirt. effin true.
D-Lish Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Guys that post a shirtless pic, and/or a pic of themselves at a bar with a random bar skank turn me off in the biggest way.
bac Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Many guys from match.com and other nice sites have their profiles on AFF and other sites. For some strange reason, they have limited number of pictures, so they use the same pictures for AFF and for communicating with nice people from match.com.
cognac Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Vanity is not a trait ascribable solely to females. There is no male or female version of vanity. There is simply vanity, which is experienced by many, many men and women alike. I disagree. Vanity is generally associated with femininity, this is not up for debate. Vain men are to masculinity what flannel wearing biker chicks are to femininity . Physical violence or beating someone at arm wrestling, right? [/Quote] Arm wrestling is dumb, it is only about forearm strength which is borderline useless outside of arm wrestling itself. I was talking about physical violence. Men should be at their physical pique in the event of war (not that i am at my pique, months of bad habits are starting to catch up with me ). Personally I'm still in decent shape but I don't really care anymore. I like my booze, cigarettes , and junk food more than i give a crap about women's opinions or even my own physical capacity at this point. When my friends leave the country and I have nobody left to hang out with i'll probably get back into my weight lifting routine out of boredom, but I havent touched the stuff in months. Outside of more female attention (and that's only if you're over 5'9), the type of workouts I see guys at the gym do are really pointless. I won't even get into the spiritual and emotional aspects of fitness that virtually all the people I see at the gym completely neglect.
D-Jam Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 I think for every one girl who openly claims the guy with the shirtless pic is a doucebag, moron, whatever...there are 2-3 girls that think he's hot and "better" than most of the "Average Joes" on the site...plus 10-20 more who will agree with the notion they are "morons", but still be into the guy and possibly not pass up if such a guy messaged them. Likewise, I think for every one guy who looks at the female profile where she put on a lingerie or bikini or skimpy outfit shot and says she's an AW or whatever, there will be more guys that will just tell the first guy that he's hating because he'll never have her...and many more guys who will message her over the "nice girl". People would not put these images up if it didn't get them results. I'm not saying they are getting good or bad results, but I believe they get results. So yeah...in the realm of online dating, looks do count for a lot more than most people want to admit. We can claim it's shallow or wrong or whatever, but actions speak louder than words.
New_Life08 Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Umm, yeah we have had these threads before... I met my bf through online dating and I noticed some of the men who matched me were flexing muscles, or just shirtless...I laughed. If it was just one shirtless pic at the beach or something (along with regular pics) it would be one thing, but shirtless in the mirror! Turn Off!!

I don't mind seeing shirtless pics at the beach or normal ones.. I just hate the shirtless pics in the mirror ones....CHEESY.

CaliGuy Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Exactly!! I don't mind seeing shirtless pics at the beach or normal ones.. I just hate the shirtless pics in the mirror ones....CHEESY. I have one shirtless pic of me performing on stage. I like the photo because I am singing and playing guitar at the same time. I use it on my PoF account and don't feel a tad guilty or cheesy about it because it IS real life. It's not me posing in front of a mirror. Women are just as bad as men when it comes to camera phone pictures. Boobs hanging out, lips all pouty. "No honey, you don't look sexy. You look like a cheap hooker..." haha.
Satisfaction Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Yeah, I think I wrote it like 3-4 years ago... Glad it helped you! What questions didn't it answer? Can't update it (archived I believe) but I can answer directly via PM if you have specific questions. I'm sorry, I have no idea how this works? How do I pm you? Can't see an option on your public profile bit. My questions are how to get over someone who is not your ex, someone you were dating for a bit but instaed of fading they jammed in your mind.
Satisfaction Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 I agree, some guys love themselves just a little too much, and they expect women to love their bodies as much as they do... But...I'm inferring from your post that you think any guy who works hard at the gym (and it shows...), whether it's for personal growth, career, or just fun, is only capable of being a "random hot guy" between some girl's thighs... Perhaps I am mistaken...? well i meant if all their pictures are topless or they only have one picture and its topless. One tight tshirt picture should be enough. You definitely get more attention if you have a hot picture up. But most of it will be people telling you garbage. Then you get psychos who just keep on messaging you. Why put up with that unless your only pleasure in life is to see your inbox full of messages regardless of whether they are stupid or not? I like to see hot guys with no shirts as much as the next girl but maybe after a few messages or in person
ella23 Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 I'm sorry, I have no idea how this works? How do I pm you? Can't see an option on your public profile bit. You can only pm after you've made a certain number of posts, I think.

USMCHokie Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 You can only pm after you've made a certain number of posts, I think. I think it's after 1 month of membership that you become an established member and have PM rights...I don't think it's based on post count...because our good man Rob has posted more than one should be permitted to post in the few weeks he's been here...and he's still not PM-able...
Satisfaction Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 You can only pm after you've made a certain number of posts, I think. Oh really? Thanks! I'm shocked to see I have 70 posts! I've only been here a week. What on earth have i been talking about?

Maybe it's that. There's some kind of rule about this obviously, not sure what it is.

I should take some time and read the board rules instead of my incessant nattering. I didn't expect this board to be so interesting though

Those aren't even proper graphs, they are biased. Can't you tell that? I hope you are just saying that to be antagonistic(which is annoying) but you don't really believe it...
