pdq Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 In view of the frustration of dating, I just could not help but think about the day that I will walk into a clinic, fill out a one hundred question survey, go through an interview process, pay out a fortune equivalent to a car and one week later my life long, female robotic companion is delivered to my front door. And why not? She'll be everything I want. OK, she can't have children, but I don't want children anyway, so that is not a problem. She can't love, but she'll be loyal...what's the difference between love and loyalty anyway? No games. STD free, that's a big plus in today's society. I was curious and did a web search on robotic companions and it is amazing the progress that has been made and what is now becoming available. Curious...
alphamale Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 so you'll be having sex with this robotic companion? would it feel the same way as with a real girl? will the robot do anything you want in bed?
Author pdq Posted January 19, 2010 Author Posted January 19, 2010 People are looking for that perfect someone, maybe technology will be the solution. Why not? We look to technology to solve most of our problems anyway.
alphamale Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 People are looking for that perfect someone, maybe technology will be the solution. Why not? We look to technology to solve most of our problems anyway. dude you've been watching/reading too much sci-fi
D-Jam Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I imagine when they develop the robots, we'll see loads of fugly men and women walking around with male and female model-esque looking beings (the robots). "Oh yeah, he so paid for that one."
meerkat stew Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Technologically, this is closer than you think. Legally, will never happen (at least in the U.S.), as it would completely erode some of the core social power of women and children, and the status quo will never allow that.
Woggle Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Make one that is lifelike enough to have sex with and I would buy it in a heartbeat.
alphamale Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 i'm not havin sex with any female robot that has a foam rubber vagina that secretes artificial lube
Author pdq Posted January 20, 2010 Author Posted January 20, 2010 i'm not havin sex with any female robot that has a foam rubber vagina that secretes artificial lube Dont' you wear a condom anyway? That's artificial

The same people who oppose prostitution will oppose this. Plus divorce lawyers will as well, as you cannot pay legal fees if one party is a robot.. Won't happen. The feminists will oppose, the religious right will oppose...
betamanlet Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 OH PS, one of the earliest twilight zone episodes was about this topic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAmFlTRtQJk&feature=PlayList&p=4D515C5638EB8FFE&index=0&playnext=1
paddington bear Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Anyone ever watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer??? The episodes where Spike the vampire is so in lust with Buffy that he orders a 'Buffybot' who looks like her, sounds like her, but with the key difference, that she actually wants him. There is that documentary Guys and Dolls about men obsessed with those real dolls...I can imagine pre-programmed bots that you could also have sex with would end up confusing a lot of people who may develop feelings for their perfect piece of plastic.

D-Jam Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I don't think feminists will oppose if there are counterpart male bots. Like I said, we'll walk down the street and see some very fugly folk walking around with what looks like models. Men and women. Only people who will have a problem are those who are trying to save the institution of marriage and anyone fearful that this will lead to a society of loners. That we'll cease to be sociable to one another because we're picking robots over people. Not to mention what happens when the owner dies or something.
Stung Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Why not invest in a RealDoll to tide you over until the sexbots are more available?
Author pdq Posted January 20, 2010 Author Posted January 20, 2010 Why not invest in a RealDoll to tide you over until the sexbots are more available? That's what women are for now... ...oops

Par tof hte big thing about feminism is the wealth distribution from divorce that makes women more independent.
Author pdq Posted January 20, 2010 Author Posted January 20, 2010 I just met someone on Chemistry.com and I'm tempted to save myself the aggravation and reply: "It was nice knowing you, but I'm going to wait for my sexbot. Good luck in your search"
Zeegagge Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 There was a Futurama episode about this, complete with video on why you shouldn't date robots.
bac Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 (edited) IMHO that is a great idea to provide the 'robotic' men with robotic girls. There are so many men in 40s on dating sites that lack a chip of emotional connection in their brains. They like robots primitive, boring and predictable. They have no personal thoughts, feelings, flexibility and they repeat the same commonplaces over and over again about their love for outdoors, and ONSs. All they can do is to perform the boring primitive activities such as vaginal and oral sex. They perform them every time in the same way like robots. They are not capable of building LTRs. IMHO If those men-robots settled with robotoc partners, it would be great relieve for dating community. Edited January 20, 2010 by bac
Island Girl Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 That's what women are for now... ...oops This entire thread is about giving up. Oh poor me. I am socially awkward - can't find love - it is everyone ELSE not ME. Geez. REALLY?? Okay whatever. Women are only good for sex. I hope you do think that way because you keep someone else from being unhappy at trying to have a relationship with you. Everything is give and take and you have to work on yourself to become a better person who is pleasant to be around. Your solution or a RealDoll or a Robotic Companion takes all that responsibility off of you to work on your social skills. Women LUCK OUT in this equation. And no feminists would not oppose it. Feminists would applaud a man such as yourself leaving real women alone and not reproducing.

Island Girl Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Will you marry me? This really is LOL funny. Okay so you have a sense of humor. Why is it that you are unsuccessful in relationships? Do you have any idea... Maybe while you are waiting for you BotGirl you could get to the bottom of that...
