dazzle22 Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 This week there was a horrible home invasion on my quiet street. A man who was widowed a couple of years back went away for a few days, and his house was ransacked, his wife's jewelry taken that he was saving for his daughter in law to be, and also more worrisome, all his TAX RETURNS, passport, and check books and private papers in drawers were taken!! They did it in broad daylight, having a kid go through a dog door, and real balsy, opened the garage door and drove off with a vintage car and then a bit later, an accomplice drove one of his other cars away!! This is the incredible part. My husband, and two of our neighbors were outside talking on our lawn and they saw the car go by!!! Thing is, he had told none of us he was gone, so we didn't know to look out for him!!! My husband and our neighbors, one of whom is a sheriff thought it must be a friend of his...... We figured out the third accomplice was watching from a car we had all noted in the neighborhood for about 2 wks.! Lurking around the corner at a dead end. If only one of us had snapped a phone photo of it. So, I want to remind everyone, tell someone on your street whom you trust that you will be gone so your neighbors can watch out for suspicious activity at your home. I have just moved all my tax papers to locked storage and have hidden sensitive papers in drawers in my bedroom under some towels, so if anyone ransacks my office, they will not get my SS# and passport and check book. Also spent some time shredding this weekend too! And of course, have an alarm. My poor neighbor didn't. He does now....
