So, what's your point? I wouldn't sleep with Rush Limbaugh either . BAseless arrogance? and Europeans don't supply plenty of this?

We generally work harder than any other nation.

And this is why people hate us dude. Please, stop trying to help... Seriously, know why other countries hate us? Because we don't educate our children well unless they go to a decent college or private school. The average citizen is absolutely ignorant with what's going on outside of the United States, a large part of our population outright denies that which should be undeniable solid science fact because it interferes with their interpretations of holy books and actively fight to have these facts replaced with religious teachings. They hate us because we are blowhards that toot our own horns about having the greatest country in the world when it's obvious our country is severely lagging behind others in all too many aspects For example, even third world countries have better maternity leave laws in place than we do. I love America for it's constitution but there is a lot that needs to be done in this country and I fear that as a whole US citizens are becoming too apathetic, uncritically thinking, intellectually lazy individuals to get the job done.

By the way, our work ethics suck compare to some other nations, especially in Asia.

The thing is that I don't believe people in other countries do hate Americans...other than in those countries that are your political enemies There are many positive things about Americans. The warmth, generosity and friendliness they can show visitors, for instance. Some fantastic literature has come out of the US. The relative newness of the country means that there's often a fresher approach to the arts - unstifled by tradition. When an American is smart....they're seriously smart, and evidently the standard in some of your higher educational institutions is excellent. Insisting that immigrants take a vow of loyalty to American - seems like a very sensible idea to me.

The flip side to it all is....well, Anne has posted a link re Hurricane Katrina. Recall what was flushed out by that Hurricane. The underbelly of the US, which it likes to keep quiet about. Poverty that seems almost third world in nature. There's something of a craze for objectivism and libertarianism on one hand...then on the other, well you've mentioned the presence of strong religious dogma that flies in the face of reason and science.

The US is a place of extremes, that's for sure. There's plenty for any American to take pride in...but it's not a country with all the answers as to how life should be lived.

It seems to me that people dislike haters and generalizations...except when it's aimed at Americans. Then it's open season. I for one am sick of it. It's not bravado, it's called being proud of your country and not listening to the brainwashed rants of so-called open minded people. And for the ove of god, please stop thinking that anyone born in the USA came into the world with a silver spoon in their mouth. We generally work harder than any other nation.

... Do you even know what the average work hours for lower-middle income people in many Asian countries are?

I'll throw you an answer - 16+ a day for the extremely poor and exploited in Bangladesh/India/China, 12+ on average in modernised cities in Singapore, Taiwan, and Japan.

re: emboldened text: I think there is an element of truth in this.

Because Europe is divided by country and languages, the differences are noted. All America is lumped in together, so saying 'American's are...' is kind of stupid, someone from Mississippi is very likely to have a totally different attitudes than someone from New York City.

I'm not American, I don't know of anyone who thinks that American's come into the world with a silver spoon in their mouth - in relation to say, an educated, but poor person from a former Eastern Block country (vast generalisation here, but bear with me) a country which is still struggling to get financially on their feet, to them, perhaps anyone who comes from a capitalist system might be seen to be wealthy, even if that is just an average income, that average income would be way more than theirs.

Leaving aside third world countries, American's tend to work a lot, there is a strong work ethic there, less holidays off than in Europe. I do think hard work is very much respected there, and before the economic crash the impression I got was that it would be easy to become a success there, it is encouraged and people help you out with that.

However, while there I did find that at times, the work ethic sometimes extreme (I'm of the work to live side of the fence, not live to work) and feel that we all should keep family and friends time to enjoy 'real' life in a healthy balance.

There's nothing wrong with being proud of your country, unless this veers over into the realms of thinking that nothing your country ever does is wrong, that you are the best country in the world and that everyone else is inferior and should do it your way, this attitude from anyone from any country just ruffles people's feathers.

Anyway, you guys have that whole perfect teeth thing going on! Flashing those smiles around should certainly help when venturing out into the world seeking loooove :)

Based on PBS and films like "Love Actually," which I loved, one gets the false impression that British guys all look like Colin Firth or Hugh Grant and have the wit and charm to match.

Who do Americans have? Bruce Willis (bald and macho); Johnny Depp (twinky and macho). American male leads lack the sexual charisma of the Brits.

While national origin as played out in the mating game makes for good conversational fodder (didn't the Colin Firth character in "Love Actually" bed a Portugese bar maid?), it's the individual characteristics that matter most: age, IQ, class, religion, penis size, etc.

I wouldn't want a woman to desire me because I'm American but because of who I am.

Both Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are charmless, imo. There are plenty of sexy British men, but I wouldn't include those two.

If you are fairly intelligent, well-spoken and -traveled, and can approach a woman with respect and confidence, then your accent doesn't matter.

For those of you who cannot read, The commentary was made in 1973-way before Katrina. Anyway, the point is that this country will do far more than any nation will do for us, with the exception of a few allies. I can even remember as a kid, collecting money for the disadvantaged in other countries.

The work ethic was aimed in comparison to Europeans, not Asia!.

As for the American who seems to sympathise with what Europeans are saying: first, Please don't call me dude. Also, for him and others. I have traveled. I was in the Marine Corps and served in Desert Storm. I've seen plenty. Many Americans know what's going on in other countries, but it doesn't conform to your view. So, you make that generalization.

It's amazing that so many will talk about religous teachings and brainwashing, but it's obvious that they see America only through what they are told and what the media presents. The great percentage of Americans are like anyone else. They just want to work, raise their kids the best they can, and live a happy life. They are not all fat, greedy, exporters of all the bad habbits.

This is another falsehood. I don't care what charts say about obesity. Yes, there are more obese people here, but they forget about the rest. America has some of the best physiques in the world-men and women. For all the sensitive ones out there, nobody is saying that we are the best, but you are very silly if you think there are not great and fit bodies here.

The main idea is that there is no air of superiority. Just because we speak up and it gets more press, does not make one arrogant. All I'm saying is that for all this country has done, they don't deserve the criticism they recieve-it's disgusting IMO. Nobody said we did nothing wrong, but from what you can see, even in this thread, you would think we've done no good.

Frankly, there are no superior races. If you want there to be world harmony, stop resenting and stop making idiotic generalizations.

I've never thought of Johnny Depp as macho! Very sexy obviously, but not in a macho way. More of a quirky one in roles like Don Juan, Willy Wonka and Edward Scissorhands. Plus that role where he played the part of the man who made all those B movies.

Talking of the accent, since the dawn of time, .....

has prevailed. It's slightly disappointing to hear him talk in a normal conversational tone.

No - just his natural voice. Way to masculine sounding to be impersonating Beckham ;)

I am going to be doing some traveling this year - in what countries are American men "appreciated" the most by women?

Afghanistan :D

If American schools are so bad, why do millions come here every year to get educated?

My mom's reason of this is one, her degree doesn't "count" here. My dad's degree (of the same school) does. If they might not take your 4 year education, then its more practical to get your degree here. Otherwise, you would have to be petitioned etc etc...

For your question though, I think, if you don't represent all the negative stereotypes of a race, than you have less explaining to do.

Why do you think American men have such low value?

Why do foreigners come here and the women flock to them, while if American men were to go to a foreign country, they are just another Joe Schmoe?

Because there is nothing exotic about American men. When foreigners come to America, they are exotic and different. The world knows what American men are like (by many American celebrities for example) and they don't see anything unusual in them, nothing special.

I can see what you mean. There are some real losers here that pull mad tale simply because they have a foreign accent. One in particular is an Australian soccer player who apparently hit bottom, washed out and ended up here. He is a perv who likes to flash his d*ck in public (my place of work, in fact - we call him 'down under d*ck show-er') and he still manages to not only be married with kids, but pull a good amount of women on the side as well. AND he is ugly. Gross, gross, gross.

Being Irish has always worked reasonably well for me, often getting attention that I don't deserve when I visit the States because of my accent. It's really weird, most of the time I have to spurn the attention because I honestly don't want or need it! :lmao:

Over here a lot of the time you'll hear of guys returning with an American wife in tow, but I've NEVER heard of an Irish girl returning with an American husband. It's strange but I think a lot of people here generally don't like an American attitude, they immediately write them off as "strangers" and "tourists" and generally avoid them and their attempts to speak Irish or rubbish jokes about the "craic". There's a big cultural barrier there, even with Irish Americans.

As for the rest of Western Europe, you're probably out of look too. The French tend to be extremely suspicious and, often times arrogant, towards outsiders (even visiting EU neighbours such as the Irish, English and of course Germans). Italian's generally seem much friendlier towards visitors or at least I found they were when I was there, although I can't speak for anywhere south of Rome.

You're best bet would probably be Eastern Europe: Poland, Lativa, Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, etc. The girls there are probably dreaming of meeting Westerners and they are generally very beautiful in appearance.

So I've seen girls go Goo-Goo Gaa-Gaa over so many losers with an Australian or European accent.

All these dudes come to the USA and get mad azz just because they have an accent.

I used to know a middle aged Australian who was basically a bum - but my did he get laid!

Well it looks like I definitely need to take a holiday to the USA then

How do you reckon a guy with a mixed Aussie/Euro accent would do?

Oh and American guys are definitely appreciated by women here in Aus. I remember them doing a survey on some morning radio show once not long ago and the majority of women that responded to it said that American and Irish accents were the hottest.

American women are fairly appreciated here too!

:lmao: Well, Negro is an outdated term that is near obsolete; I prefer African American. My cousin says blacks are the African Americans that shoot each other in the projects and join gangs and have five or more kids before they turn twenty-two. She hates everyone.

It is worse then outdated, except when reading historical documents for the Kingdom day celebrations or Negro, I mean Black or is it African American History month when someone refers to me as a "negro" 9 times out of 10 it is a calculated insulted. When "negro" is not used as an insult it is someone like my grandmother who used "colored" until the day she died in 1995. One of the first lessons for my wife, a native of Manila the Philippines was that referring to black people let no word starting with a "N" sound escape from her lips. Especially since the Tagalog word for blacks with their native accent sounds closer to "the N word" then its Spanish root word for black it was taken from.

i'm thinkin' a lot of american dudes could get laid in thailand

Sure but that's pay for play. There are many "third world" people who are going for Americans only they are holding out for a spouse. There is an old Nicole Kidman movie, Birthday Girl, she plays a grifter whose cover is as a Russian mail order bride. Before the audience knows her con it plays like she gives up sex as her selling point to snag a British husband who she has nothing else in common with. So who is willing to put out because their culture is fine with casual sex? For the ones that are being American is not a hindrance or a gain.

I'm an American girl who doesn't go "goo goo gaa gaa" over Australian or European accents. I spent a lot of time abroad growing up so I heard all sorts of accents and didn't think to exoticize them. To cheer you up some more-NONE of my gfs like my Austrian bf's accent.

Seriously, know why other countries hate us? Because we don't educate our children well unless they go to a decent college or private school.

Seriously? No.

It's so easy to take pot shots based on apples and oranges comparisons. No other country in the world is as dynamically heterogenous in ethnic makeup as the U.S. No economic or political model, past or present, could assimilate the vast and continuing waves of immigration as fluidly as the traditional U.S. constitutionalist capitalist model, in fact, such immigration would rip any other country on earth apart instantly. Only the advent of quasi socialism in the U.S., and the massive bureaucratic and financial drag on the economy that such entails has slowed down our ability to assimilate immigration. No other country on earth could educate a marvelously heterogenous culture with anywhere near the efficiency that the U.S. does.

The average citizen is absolutely ignorant with what's going on outside of the United States, a large part of our population outright denies that which should be undeniable solid science fact because it interferes with their interpretations of holy books and actively fight to have these facts replaced with religious teachings.

As is, and as does, the average citizen in all other countries, where countries other than the U.S., which sets so much of world policy (due to raw economic and political power), are concerned. The U.S. has no monopoly on fundamentalism, and to suggest otherwise is hilarious. Moreover, given the aforementioned heterogeneity, the U.S. is -the- most tolerant country of religious variety in the world.

For example, even third world countries have better maternity leave laws in place than we do.

and as we all know, the greatness of a country is determined to a great degree by... maternal leave laws

I fear that as a whole US citizens are becoming too apathetic, uncritically thinking, intellectually lazy individuals to get the job done.

Here, I will agree with you, and we have a behemoth of a maternalist, centralized, quasi-socialist bureaucracy that breeds the cancer of dependence and victim mentality to thank for that. Let's all go to the voting booth and cast them all out shall we?

By the way, our work ethics suck compare to some other nations, especially in Asia.

This above is thoroughly incorrect. Since you made the statement, please do prove it.

To the topic, IME, it's not so much the accent with foreign men (but that's a factor), it's 1) the gumption to travel or move (and this applies to Americans abroad also) and 2) they have better attraction skills than comparable American men.
