temple Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Here are my three "fiend lions" lol http://i860.photobucket.com/albums/ab164/donnamaybe/Critters/Boots.jpg http://i860.photobucket.com/albums/ab164/donnamaybe/Critters/Chloe.jpg http://i860.photobucket.com/albums/ab164/donnamaybe/Critters/Isabellestretching.jpg As for the people v. animals question, I have to say I'm ALWAYS comfortable around my kitties. People, not always. They can be very moody. However, I take each one at face value and love them for who they are. After all, people have to put up with my peculiarities. I looove your kitties
TaraMaiden Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 ...and that could be taken in soooooooo many ways.....!
temple Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 ...and that could be taken in soooooooo many ways.....! Hah! Well what can I say they have an effect on me
anne1707 Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Well you can see one of my "girls" in my avatar and another in Wuggle's http://www.loveshack.org/forums/member.php?u=58712 To be honest, I would struggle to be with someone long term who did not like pets
threebyfate Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 My guys are in a photo album in my profile. If you notice, the pic of my cat on my husband's shoulder, you'll notice how large a cat he is, since my H. isn't a small man. Our Bengal looks like a small mountain lion, compared to me! This big boy can reach into the middle of the island in my kitchen, by standing up on his hind legs and sweeping his paw. That's why I can't leave him alone with anything he takes an interest to, on the counter!
alphamale Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 there are two schools on pets, (1) if you like animals more than people, you are crazy or (2) if you like animals more than people, you have a better and more loyal companion who doesn't cheat or stab you in the back. i believe in 2. I love my pets. anyone who likes the companionship of animals more than people has got to have a screw loose
knaveman Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I love pet threads. My dog is in an album on my profile.
harmfulsweetz Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 anyone who likes the companionship of animals more than people has got to have a screw loose I have a screw loose! Animals are better than people in the sense that they love you unconditionally, they don't talk back and they are so darned cute I love my two boys much more than most people. People aren't loyal, like they are
Payden Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I have a screw loose too lol.. I'm a manly man, but I get mushy for the animals. They love you no matter what..... I got mad one day and slammed my door out of a fit...... I was punching my couch in my room and sat down.... Everything was quiet when I heard a small wimper and scratching at my door... It was my girl and she wanted to come in. I let her in and she jumped up onto my lap, climbed into my arms and she just put her head down and we went to sleep on the couch together.... So yes...I have a screw loose....oh hell..I got a whole box of screws loose ....

My dad has a habit of telling the young 'un off, because he runs away constantly when he is out, so when he gets his lead on, to avoid a telling off, he lays on his back, and starts licking his hand as he gets his leash put on. Really cute. And best bit is? You can never face telling a dog off when he's like that! They forgive you anything, if you've had to leave them for a few more hours than expected, that's fine, they are just happy to see you. Mine watch from the windowsill (they think they are cats now we own one) as we go out, so funny!

Mine watch from the windowsill (they think they are cats now we own one) as we go out, so funny! Don't put human emotions onto an animal. They watch from the window because they're anxious about the pack being split up. They're 'happy to see you', because the pack is reuniting and they're ensuring every member is home safe and unharmed. And what the heck were you thinking going off without them? Any damage or problems when you get home? (not suggesting there are, just asking....) I have an 'ology' in Canine psyche....!

They are fairly well-behaved most of time, except the youngest, he's toilet trained, so nothing like that. Maybe shredded mail! lol. I like to think they are happy all the same, even if it's just at the pack being reunited.
TaraMaiden Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Oh yes, they're happy, but shredding mail is a combination of protecting the den, and a little anxiety. It happens... But if they're generally calm and ok, then I'm sure there's nothing to do here....

My dad called me 1.5 weeks ago to tell me that their pet bird died, whom i loved a lot, and I was really sad, and one of my cats saw me, and came up to me, got close, and started touching my hand with his paw, like he was rubbing my hand, in compassion.

I've heard from many people, given how unreliable and flaky people are, that if you're lonely, and want companionship, get a pet, they are far better for companionship than people are.

Taramere Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Probably my favourite animals are horses. I absolutely adore them. To the person who talked about animal lovers having a screw loose: Most probably. I can remember a schoolteacher actually writing in my report card that my obsession with horses was interfering with my schoolwork. I like dogs, but I'm not indiscriminately crazy about them. Not a fan of small, yappy and aggressive dogs...but big friendly playful ones are great. I like most cats. They're often tremendously entertaining, and it's fun to attribute all kinds of narcissistic and egotistical human qualities onto them...even if it's not fair. I can't stand it when I read stories from total dicks on the Internet about being cruel to cats. We had a cat, when I was about 5, that got caught by a gang of thugs. It somehow managed to crawl back to the house in its bleeding and broken state. My dad ushered me out of the way really quickly, but I caught a glimpse and knew exactly what had happened (a combination of overhearing my parents' distressed conversation, and guesswork). To this day, if I encountered a bunch of thugs tormenting a cat in the belief that it's somehow fun and manly, and I had a gun in my hand, I can't say I wouldn't take aim and fire.

My white kitten loves attention. If I'm at the computer, and my back is to him, he'll start meowing and demanding that I pet him. I'll do that for a couple minutes, then go back to typing, and he starts meowing again. People that abuse animals tend to be pretty nasty people, and sometimes wind up being murderers, serial killers. Serial killers tend to start on animals, then work their way up to people.

Settling down on a paper you're trying to read is a favourite. People that abuse animals tend to be pretty nasty people, and sometimes wind up being murderers, serial killers. Serial killers tend to start on animals, then work their way up to people. It's just not something I will ever understand...but a lot of guys who aren't psychopaths go through a phase of being unkind to animals. My older brother used to do this staring thing at our family cats and dogs. Freaking them out. Or he would put the cat in a plastic bag and swing it around while I pummelled at him with my fists to try to stop him. He's not psychotic, but he just thought it was funny...and somehow convinced himself that the cat was having fun too (which it clearly wasn't). Then he'd get annoyed because I'd be sitting there with all the family pets clinging to my legs or lap and refusing to go over to him. "Why are they scared of me? It's not like I've ever hit any of them!" I think people can often get irritated by the fear animals show towards them, and it's a self perpetuating thing. The more annoyed and impatient they get with the animal, the more afraid the animal is of them. Then you get people like Monty Roberts who have the most incredible affinity with animals. I knew a guy like that who had a strange thing with birds. He could go over to a wild crow or a seagull, and pick it up. It would just sit there quite placidly in his hands. He didn't know the hows and whys of this. Apparently it was just a knack he'd always had....but he was a very gentle person, and I think animals sense and warm to that. Tell me...is that why you prefer animals? Do you think perhaps they value qualities that humans often overlook?

I wasn't sure how to post a pic of her any other way. Oh well.. it was time to change my avatar anyways!
donnamaybe Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Animals don't tend to plot and scheme behind your back. They aren't two faced. They only "use" you for love and nourishment. They are ALWAYS happy to see you when you walk in the door. My Isabelle, the one stretching her striped little body in the picture I posted, is SO funny! One time my ex and I were reading in bed and we heard this rustling sound and looked to see her on the desk in our bedroom, poking at pens and pencils. I said, "There's why we always find things on the floor in the morning." My ex made a very quick, loud noise which, of course, startled my Isabelle. I pointed at her and, laughing, said, "Daddy got you!" She gave me a sour look and jumped down. I turned onto my side with my back towards the edge of the bed. About 10 seconds later I felt one - just ONE - little needle claw in my butt cheek which made me squeal. I turned, and she was sitting there looking at me with this satisfied expression on her furry little face. Also, recently I was playing Rock Band with my son, and I was singing "Living on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi. Well, when you get to the chorus, you REALLY have to let 'er rip to hit those high notes! Isabelle has NEVER been one to like stern or raised voices, and when I started belting out that chorus, she started stalking back and forth behind me on the couch, yowling at me with this angry look, reaching for me and swiping at me. She jumped down and grabbed the top of my socks in her teeth and pulled, then back on the couch to take more swipes at me. She would NOT STOP! It was SOOOO funny! I had to put her in a bedroom so I could finish. Everyone's a critic, I tell ya! I absolutely ADORE my kitties!!!
