Lately, I enjoy wearing a single large ring on one of my hands. I hate anything sparkly so it's more like just silver or say black onyx. Other than that, I wear understated earrings and simple chain (all in silver or white gold).

My brother just told me that my big rings are "ugly" :(

Do other guys feel this way?

I had a 3 carat engagement ring (while that lasted) - it was quite big and surrounded by smaller diamonds on the sides. I only got complaints!!!!!! Even from men.

LOL - I meant, I only got compliments!!!!

It depends. As long as it's elegant and fits with the rest of your style, I would like it. If it sits loudly and obnoxiously like an attention-seeking Italian pimp, then we might have a problem.

It's not always the size that's the problem. It's just generally hard to make larger rings fit in with the ensemble of the rest of your style.

I think three carats is too big. Yes, the wearer will get compliments no matter what is in people's minds. What are people supposed to say..."Wow, that's an awfully big ring on your finger!"

What does it matter really. I mean, have you ever heard of a man leaving a woman because of her big rings or cheating on his wife because she wore big rings? Would it keep a man from asking a woman out that he otherwise found very attractive. It's a non-issue.

IMO, jewelry is one expression of one's style and perspective; a form of removable body art. Some days it's a caricature; other days a mural. My advice is to enjoy it :)

As I enjoy art and jewelry, it would be likely be a focus of interest. YMMV with other men.

No, I think only when it's 'too much' :)

I know that the gay men I've known have been interested in such things. Straight men, not so much. If the OP wants reassurance that she can wear her jewelry without it turning off a potential male approach, I'd say that's pretty much assured. The rest of it varies from man to man. It's all part of compatibility. Would she find a man who notices her jewelry and likes it to be attractive? Unknown. :)

I notice. The type of jewelry a woman wears can tell much about her mood, personality, her past, what is important to her, all things I had rather know than not know.

Really. I am not a "jewelry" person, although I have been given quite a number of good pieces and appreciate them. I really can't bring myself to buy jewelry that cost thousands of dollars in good conscience, even though nobody really has made me feel bad them. My mother loves jewelry and has a lot but rarely wears them. I wear a pair of diamond earrings (studs) everyday, only because I am too lazy to take them off..lol..

But I find that I do not like silver or any of the semi-precious stones...like many Native American jewelry :(.

I wonder what does says about me..hmmm...

"tacky looking" is relative-like a lot of things.

How big are we talkin'?

One of those types that covers the entire segment of finger it is on: Ugly.

Rings that have a protrusion that is about as large as the finger it is on: Ugly.

LOL....a ring the covers the knuckles...and says "THUG LIFE"-encrusted with cubic zirconia IS totally unattractive.

My mother is much the same way with "just the diamond studs," and this absence of jewelry can be just as much an expression as wearing it. Forgive me if I presume, but imagine your profession precludes lots of jewelry (got the idea you are in healthcare, please correct me if I am mistaken) during working hours. The point I wanted to make is that some non-gay men do notice jewelry and accessories. I pay attention to them on men also, but this could be a consequence of my work. I am much more wary of a man wearing a Timex and plain clothes than a man wearing a Patek Phillipe and giant cufflinks!

A visual would help. I can't imagine it being extremely big, but I don't see a problem with larger rings, unless you are wearing more than ONE larger ring. That would be over doing it IMO. Also, depends on what type of ring it is.

No, you are not mistaken, I am in healthcare and yes, rings (non-band) would not be a good idea.

I guess I was more curious on the part where you said about"... the

mood, what's important to her, personality, etc...." part...

I wonder if this means I am cheap because I cannot bring myself to buy jewelry....?

I would totally hit on a chick wearing this.

In general, I'll cast my vote in favor of big rings on girls. Big rings, enormous dangly earrings, bangly bracelets, I like all of those on girls. However, more than 5 rings total means you are crazy, according to my dad.

To clarify, if a woman is wearing jewelry, it can tell you lots about her, not necessarily from the jewelry itself (but sometimes if it's an iron german cross or a giant ankh:laugh:), but from what she tells you about it. For example, she has an old ring on that is cheap, but she made it herself in high school. She has a very decorative ring on that she got on a trip, and how she got it has a story. I enjoy listening to them talk about the origins of the adornments, as women seem more prone to adorn themselves in this way than most men, and it's foreign and interesting to me, sometimes very charming.

It probably means you just don't feel the need for adornment in that way. But do go out and buy yourself a giant diamond encrusted dollar sign and post a picture of it here! We want to see the lovely "gynogeisha"-worthy bling!
