You can actually get them just from sitting too long. If you have say irritable bowel or stomach issues, that can contribute to hemorrhoids. Pregnant women often get them.

Yeah, my mom did when she was pregnant with me. She later used her sits bath pan to bath me when I was an infant. Pretty shytey, eh?

1)constipation- not enough fiber or hydration-this causes you to strain and push

2)sitting or standing for long, long periods of time-don't sit on the loo and do the sunday crossword puzzle-do your business and get up

3)heavy lifting-yes, like weight lifting

4)pregnancy and/or childbirth

5)anal intercourse

6)obesity

 

basically, anything that puts pressure to your pelvic area can cause hemorrhoids.

 

Things to think about: If your poop is short and lands in the bottom of the toilet-thats an indicator that you need to drink more water and/or have better fiber intake. Poop should be longish, light brown and should "float".

 

about 50% of men in their 50s end up with hemorrhoids and many, many more women who have gone through pregnancy/childbirth do, too.

I remember having them years ago when I was in a bunch of weddings in a few months with tons of parties, and all the drinking and salty foods did it. Certainly don't have them now, or if I do, can't tell. Do they come and go?

Yes, we all have hemorrhoidal veins in the rectal area. The correct term really when talking about problems with hemorrhoids is inflammed hemorrhoids-there are two kinds , external and internal...Obviously, here we are talking about the external one, because that is what your partner would see, if she is so inclined as to check out your..er.. anal area

 

Both problems can be resolved-either medically or lifestyle change-depending on the severity. However, once you have hemorrhoids you can get it again due to the weakened vein wall...so stick to your healthy lifestyle...and be prudent on anal activities.
