Thinking of getting a boyfriend for the winter, so he can drive me around in the snow.

Snow just makes me nervous and I like going to the mountains.

Is this a serious post? If it is, you are going to get crucified....Run...

I'm serious. I get really nervous driving in the snow and I'm too cheap to buy snow tires. Besides then you have to pay to have them switched over in the spring.

Guys always have 4x4 vehicles with big tires. Supply and demand.

Or maybe I should get all-season radials, and not bother with the bf. Can't decide.

Take a bus.

Into the mountains? That is quite the amusing visual - the winding, snowy roads, the plume of exhaust, people pressing the button to get off....

You don't need a man, you need a 4x4. I just got a Durango (not new, but I don't like the new ones anyway) It just snowed a bunch here and it didn't even feel like I was driving on the snow. It is a total snow cat, I couldn't love it more. It gets crappy gas mileage, but that is the only negative, the list of positives is a mile long.

Ha! Not always so! Beloved drives a Prius -- he's fanatical about it. Funniest thing is that it gets him safely between two of the snowiest cities in Upstate NY every day -- on good winter tires. :) I called him the other day at work because one of the towns he drives through was on the news for having 56" of snow. My poor baby.

Seriously, though: winter driving. Have you considered going to your local driving school and scheduling a lesson? You'll be with someone who won't panic even if you do, and who's probably better acquainted with all the switches and doodads in your car than you are. ("Wait, that switch actually does somethi-- oh, sh*t!") One of my instructors taught me about those extra gears in an automatic and how very useful they are in icy weather.

I also spent a lesson learning to drive in the dark and only almost got us killed once. :o

I don't mind driving in snow/ice/freezing rain. But I do like having a bf in the winter to pump my gas and check my tire pressure when it's freezing out, and to brush snow and scrape ice off my car and get it started and warmed up for me in the morning :D

You just need to do other awesome things for him so it's not so one sided ;)

buying some snow tires will probably cost less ;)

You might want to buy tires with studs, they are the best if there is ice on the road.

But you need a BF anyway for cleaning your car if it snows.

btw,I'm just curious, what are your requirements for a "summertime" boyfriend? A guy w/ a "dune buggy" and no brains?

Oooooh i LOVE dune buggies - i spent some time in the desert recently....they are so fun.

My suggestion - wait until summer and get a summer guy, because driving on the sand is definitely more enjoyable than on the snow.

This sounds like a joke but you say you're serious. That's what really makes it a joke.
