sumdude Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 First impressions when your hear that regarding a man. It's an option to describe body type on a lot of dating sites. Positive or negative connotation?
Lizzie60 Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 First impressions when your hear that regarding a man. It's an option to describe body type on a lot of dating sites. Positive or negative connotation? Indifferent... I would say that it is someone who is shorter and not exactly thin... but not flabby...
norajane Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 I think of a wrestler's build...off season. Shorter, compact, wide shoulders/barrel chest. It's not a negative, unless he's too short. And too short is someone shorter than me.
greengenie Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 I'm not a lady, but when I hear stocky, I think rather short and pretty muscular.
Author sumdude Posted January 8, 2010 Author Posted January 8, 2010 So if physically I look a lot lot this guy (legs just a little shorter with more muscle) would that be stocky, athletic or a few extra pounds? There is a layer of fat on top of a broad muscular body. http://www.predatorfitness.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/fedor.jpg

There is a layer of fat on top of a broad muscular body. http://www.predatorfitness.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/fedor.jpg I'd say that guy was overweight, more than a few extra pounds. Sure he lifts weights and looks like he uses the gym, but he also looks seriously unhealthy and doesn't watch what goes into his body..my guess is he's a big fan of fast-food.
carhill Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Comparing visual perspectives on objects in the photograph, I'd say the guy is 5'10 to 6' and between 195 and 210 lbs. He actually looks a lot like I did when younger, except he has more (head) hair. I think, if he lists himself as 'stocky', that's a description I'd approve of. I was 5'11 and 220 when I played football in high school. 'Stocky' was a phrase often used to describe interior linemen. Appropriate, IMO. I leave the ladies to decide whether it's attractive or not. At this point in life, I really don't care

Interesting observation.. considering he's a world heavyweight wrestling record holder and self-defense fighting world champion. Interesting how body perception in the US is so different. All those magazine covers with guys who have 5% body fat so every muscle shows giving that ripped look. Same goes for the emaciated waif female models. Go figure...
Lizzie60 Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 I'll bring the strawberries and whipped cream. Nah... just bring the Champagne... I'm on a diet..
norajane Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 At 5' 11", you are not short. Stocky, to me, implies short. Dude in the picture is not stocky. He's too tall to be stocky. Short and square is stocky.

Oh, and I don't live in the US
threebyfate Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 I also view stocky as someone who's short but thickset. Sumdude, you're built like a linebacker, if you're like the guy in the picture!
JamesM Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Question that someone has to ask.... What brought this up and why would you want to know?
Lizzie60 Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Question that someone has to ask.... What brought this up and why would you want to know? Could it be someone who post HIS picture ... but ask what people are thinking about THIS guy... kind-of-post.. ? I think he looks good.. especially covered in chocolate..
norajane Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Question that someone has to ask.... What brought this up and why would you want to know? Dating site terminology. I think he's trying to figure out which box to check on his profile regarding body type.
carhill Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 It was either 'a few extra pounds' or 'I'll tell you later' on the site I'm on. I used the former. I gave my current height and weight in my profile text. BTW, men, you do know you get shorter as you age? I've lost almost 3/4" from when I was younger. I put 5'10" in my profile.

Author sumdude Posted January 8, 2010 Author Posted January 8, 2010 Question that someone has to ask.... What brought this up and why would you want to know? Mostly curious about online dating profiles, preferences and opinions. All those options about body type such as few extra pounds, stocky, athletic, average etc I wonder what the best way to describe myself would be since none quite fit. They don't have a burly option Pic isn't me but a russian wrestler/ martial arts pic I found that was about as close as I could find in short order. Very similar body type but different facial features. Found it interesting he was in a kettlebell gym which I started on a few months ago. My background is eastern european so I guess that makes some sense.

Author sumdude Posted January 8, 2010 Author Posted January 8, 2010 hummm... do you like chocolate.. how old are you? Yes.. dark chocolate, it's not too sweet. I'm 41 going on 25..
Crazy Magnet Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 to me stocky is short and rather square. Like the guys who are5'8" or shorter and who are really built. It's not a look that makes me drool. I would not say that guy in that picture is "stocky" just b/c you said he was taller.
